Taking a moment and stepping back to think about how many amazing people I know. From BFFs to coworkers to online friends, you guys make every new year one to look forward to. Wishing you all the best in 2017!

Stay safe tonight everyone! See you in 2017!

HOME HOME HOME!!!!!!! It was a whirlwind trip but I got to see all of my peoples. It had been over a year which was way too long. I love New England. Next time I want to do a proper Boston wander, but we just couldn't fit it in the schedule this time. I'm hoping maybe we can take Sylvia next year, do all the history things that are lying around that part of the country.

And now I am going to reunite with my bed. Because I have missed it SO MUCH! Nothing compares to your own pillows.

Took the morning off to "recover" (because I wasn't sure when we would get back today and also I don't wanna wake up /whining)

OH and in case you haven't seen, the awesome [livejournal.com profile] phenomenal has started a new friending meme! Check it out!

The Sad Ghost's Friend Frenzy!

First, I want to apologize for comparing Tremors to the crappy-franchise-that-must-not-be-named. After rewatching the movie on SyFy last night, I have to agree I was surprised how well it held up!

Second, have I told you all lately that I love you? I love how passionate you all are about your fandoms. It's why we are friends lol. I enjoyed all the responses, I was cracking up each time I got a little alert! You are all the best!

We're somewhere in the hills of Pennsylvania, heading towards West Virginia. Probably will be home around midnight as long as traffic/weather behaves. Can't wait to sleep in my own bed!

FYI I did a little friends cut today. Mostly people who I never felt like I clicked with or we didn't comment on each other's posts etc. No hard feelings! I find myself struggling to keep up with posts some days and I feel bad skimming past posts and when I checked the statistics to confirm we never really talked, I figured it was best to say goodbye.

So, we are fans of the television show Parks and Recreation (even though Leslie Knope and librarians don't get along)

But if you have watched the show, you will know that Ron Swanson (played by Nick Offerman) LOVES a very specific kind of whisky/scotch called Lagavulin.

Nick Offerman actually loves Lagavulin and this was written into the character of Ron Swanson so, yeah Swanson/Offerman - who is the character? I don't even know!!!

We decided we wanted to try it. So we split the cost with friends (it's $80/bottle, so we decided we'd go halvsies as two couples).

#lagavulin #scotch #whisky

It was very oak-y. It spent 16 years in a barrel so that makes sense. It tastes like the barrel, like, you could taste the fire roasted wood chips. It wasn't my favorite scotch that I've ever had. I think I prefer Jameson.

Very cool experience to try it though! I did get a little bit too tipsy and drop a glass so OOPS! I switched to a plastic cup after that (though I also switched to water for about an hour too). Between the four of us, the entire bottle was gone in a matter of hours.

Japan releases guide to etiquette for tourists

I like how the article notes that, while Japan has many visitors, the pamphlet is only currently published in English and Chinese.

My good friend [livejournal.com profile] jellibean is back on livejournal after a long hiatus. As many of us know, coming back and dusting off the ol' LJ can be hard when your friends list isn't as active as it used to be. So I asked her if it was okay to encourage random friending and she was up for it!

She is an awesome lady, has done lots of cosplay and cons, she is into Star Wars and video games and she is a planner fiend ([livejournal.com profile] dontjudgeme - you would appreciate her skills) and she has a background in law stuff [livejournal.com profile] phenomenal, you guys could probably have some good convos). She is married to an awesome guy so you will *probably* have to hear about that a little bit, but they are so adorable, going to conventions together and such.

Anyway, pop over and check out her LJ, tell her I sent you.

Livejournal is always more fun with *active* friends, yeah?

spring fling friending frenzy!

Because, why not? (though I feel like I just friended everyone left on LJ last week!!!!!!)

[livejournal.com profile] teragramm has started a new kind fo friending meme. Check out her "Circling the Wagons" post and, if you want to, join in the fun! You'll meet some new folks without having to go through the trouble of filling out a little form or reading through hundreds of comments.

I can't believe I just paid $13 for a SINGLE ticket to see Zoolander 2 tonight. It was $11.25 for the ticket + a random service charge.

But I'm not thinking of it as just a movie, but a Galentine's Day gathering with two awesome ladies.

We're going to a Vietnamese place for dinner called Phubs before the movie. I've only had pho once and I didn't really care for it so I'm not sure if I will give it a second try or maybe have one of the subs. They all look good (then again, it's almost lunch time so EVERYTHING looks good to me right now).

Thank you, my awesome Livejournal Friends list, for having a wonderful conversation with me about young adult novels, understanding what stories appeal to us, and even commenting on my silly donut day selfie. You guys are made of awesome and made my weekend that much more fun.

<3 <3

And now I'm off to see X-Men!!!!!!!!!

FRIENDING MEME
Make some great new friends with the friending meme over at [livejournal.com profile] silkmermaids!

Welcome to my new friends [livejournal.com profile] thekaiserchief, [livejournal.com profile] touchofgr3y, [livejournal.com profile] profiterole, and [livejournal.com profile] jediknightmuse!

I don't know why but I am EXHAUSTED today. On the desk until 7pm and it's relatively busy so far so it's keeping me awake. Murk got the science fair project question, thank goodness! I've had a few RA questions.

A Children's Lit student just asked me what "Modern Fantasy" was and I thought it just meant new fantasy books set in modern times but then she said her teacher used "The Little Mermaid" as an example and I don't really think of Hans Christian Anderson as "modern" anything. Of course, I had to Google it and I found this information on the University of Wisconsin website which pretty much says "modern fantasy" just means fantasy stories that we know the actual author of. So I think the books I ended up giving her were okay...though she did take a King Arthur story, do we know who wrote that? probably not.

Book meme snagged from [livejournal.com profile] domluver:

List ten books that have stayed with you in some way. Don’t take but a few minutes and don’t think too hard — they don’t have to be the “right” or “great” works, just the ones that have touched you.

1. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
2. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
3. Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton
4. Shopgirl by Steve Martin
5. The Stranger by Albert Camus
6. Uglies by Scott Westerfeld
7. Y The Last Man by Brian K. Vaughan
8. Everybody Sees the Ants by A.S. King
9. The Last Unicorn by Peter Beagle
10. Blankets by Craig Thompson

OH and if you are a fan of READING and WRITING etc. you should friend my buddy [livejournal.com profile] andy_wolverton -- he is also a librarian but unlike me he is disgustingly talented and has had short stories published, has mad music skills and apparently can also draw really well. Sheesh. Anyway, he needs more LJ Friends :-)
orangerful: (i heart my friends // orangerful)
1. Is there someone on your friends list that you haven't met in real life that you love completely? Hm...I dunno, I have a lot of people I really like but I don't know if I can profess my complete love for anyone I haven't ever seen or met LOL. :)

2. Have you [wanted to] date someone on LJ? uh, well, I initially signed up for LJ because my then-boyfriend was using it. Otherwise, no one I can think of was my type :)

3. Have you met someone/wanted to meet someone from LJ? Who? YES! I've met [livejournal.com profile] jellibean, [livejournal.com profile] faeriesfolly, and [livejournal.com profile] lostacanthus! I NEED to meet [livejournal.com profile] duncatraand [livejournal.com profile] plumxxjam someday! And I have several other IRL friends who lurk on my LJ but I knew them before LJ. :)

4. Who have you known the longest from your flist? Hm...probably [livejournal.com profile] jellibean, [livejournal.com profile] faeriesfolly, and [livejournal.com profile] spitefairy, though she doesn't post anymore on here :(

5. Who are you closest to? [livejournal.com profile] bittertwee and [livejournal.com profile] lostacanthus are probably my BFFs on LJ and IRL (convenient, yes?)

So we had a crazy storm here in Maryland on Friday night. My apartment, thank goodness, did not lose power. Guess that's one of the plus sides of living in a giant concrete box. My parents, [livejournal.com profile] faeriesfolly, and most of my county, however, was not as lucky. I went to work on Saturday only to find out the library was out of power. I had some personal leave sitting around though, so I took that and went home for the day because figuring out what branches *did* have power was kind of tricky. I know at least 3 were out. I'm wondering if BGE hasnt' managed to get all the residential customers online if they have even bothers with the commercial customers.

My mom texted me at 10pm to tell me it was now officially hotter in their basement than outside. I bet they've never looked forward to going to work so much before.

On the fun side, [livejournal.com profile] maybedeadcat, [livejournal.com profile] lostacanthus, Mathew, and I went down to D.C. today to check out the Art of Video Games exhibit. The exhibit itself was epic fail. They confused "art" and "history" and instead just had on display all the different consoles with images of the top 4 games from each, voted on by the Internetz. I really wanted to see some ART from VIDEO GAMES! *sigh* But it led to some great conversation between the 4 of us about games, gaming, art, and just how much we love that genre. So I will give them that.

[livejournal.com profile] maybedeadcat & I played a bit more Lego Harry Potter too. Finally unlocked and EVIL character (Barty "David Tennant in Lego form" Crouch Jr.) so we can *finally* blow up all the red glowing things which are hiding the last pieces of all the house crests and characters. SOON WE WILL HAVE 100% !!!! (well...maybe not soon...but def. before the Lord of the Rings game comes out).

Speaking of games, I want to play a bit of Skyrim before bedtime. Listening to [livejournal.com profile] maybedeadcat and [livejournal.com profile] lostacanthus discuss their playthroughs gave me an itch to play. (Of course, yesterday [livejournal.com profile] faeriesfolly reminded me about the DLC for DragonAge II I with Felicia Day and I may have gotten a little too excited about romancing her. I need to finish my second playthrough of that too...
orangerful: (omg ponies // orangerful)

[livejournal.com profile] faeriesfolly came over tonight and after we ate her delicious chicken salad for dinner and babbled for a few hours, I finally watched my first episode of My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic

LOVED IT!!!!!!!!

So, yeah, [livejournal.com profile] faeriesfolly is totally Pinkie, [livejournal.com profile] jellibean truly is Twilight Sparkle...which pony am I?????

So sleepy...but tomorrow I go in search of more screencaps. Anyone know a good site besides the MLP:FIM wiki for episode screencaps? I was coming up empty :(
orangerful: (Default)
Yes, I woke up with a bit of a headache, managed to spill coffee not just on myself but on a library book (which I will now have to buy), and my feet hurt from wearing my brand new shoes for the first time but

The program [livejournal.com profile] andy_wolverton and I had been dreading doing is finally OVER WITH. We had 81 people and we totally ROCKED IT! Everyone now knows how to download library ebooks to their Kindles/Nooks/iPads.

I also believe I have convinced my mom to get my an iPad for my birthday...I floated the suggestion by her and we ended up emailing back and forth about pricing on different sites (I think she wants one too). I'm hoping that maybe she got bored and ordered it yesterday and maybe I will have it before my birthday...but I don't know...she stopped emailing back abruptly which makes me think she has gone into stealth-ordering mode LOL.

(Hm...that reminds me, she said she ordered me Portal earrings for Christmas but they had not arrived last time I was over...wonder if those have also become birthday gifts...)

My ThinkGeek "OMG Pwnies!" bag arrived yesterday and it's super-awesome (and hey, just the right size for an iPad...huh!). Not only did I get it using the $20 gift card my boss gave me, but ThinkGeek was super cool about letting my apply a $5 off coupon they sent out 5 minutes after I ordered the thing. Hey - $5 is the equivalent of free shipping!

And after a long day at work, I cam home and had a really nice 3 hour chat with [livejournal.com profile] maybedeadcat (who needs to post on his LJ so he can be cool like me and all my friends can get to know him toooo)

So, yeah, I'm going to eat this snickerdoodle from Giant (which is surprisingly delicious! Another point for Giant - they lost a point on their popcorn, but their pizza and bakery cookies are delicious) and then I'm going to go to bed while this happy vibe is upon me !
