I got paid to blog again!

I got to write another blog for work! And it's about my love of Star Wars and reading! And I even managed to work in a small rant about why parents should let their kids read what they want!

check it out!

Why don't they want their kids to read certain books?

they have decided in their infinite wisdom that the book is:
"inappropriate"
"too easy"
"too hard"
"you won't like it"
"not a challenge"
"not a classic"
"based on [insert tv show/video game/movie] so it's not any good"

blah blah blah. Honestly, it takes a lot to not roll your eyes at some of these parents. I tend to confuse them by being very excited about books that they have deemed unworthy. My favorite thing is to get overly excited about Minecraft and talking about how great a game it is for kids and then using that to find a book for their child to read. They always think I will condemn video games BWHAHAH JOKES ON YOU !!!

Jesus that's upsetting. My mother would have kicked my butt if I didn't read as a kid. Tell me you make them read the books anyways XD

I try my best. :) I try to explain to the parents all of the good things that come from reading, that kids will stop reading if a book is too challenging, that they are trying to get them to read for fun, that the child needs to be able to identify with the story...

Yeah, my mom let me read whatever I wanted to so I usually end up boggling at any parent that stops their child. Unfortunately, in the end, the caregiver gets the final say, but usually I can at least convince them to take one "fun" book and one "challenging" book (though I've read enough children's and teen fiction to know what I'm really giving them LOL)

I had a whole comment typed and then my internet cut out, fuck's sake ...

Parents are so dumb. Just because you have the biological ability to produce offspring doesn't mean you're an expert on shit. I was a TA for a teacher in secondary school and he had a parent come in trying to blame him for their daughter skipping class and failing the test and my teacher was like 'hahaha nope'. Parents are embarrassing sometimes, honestly.
