tv thoughts: American Horror Story: Freak Show premiere

The short version: DEAR GODS, IF I DIDN'T HAVE A PROBLEM WITH CLOWNS BEFORE THIS SHOW, I WOULD NOW!

Long version:

It can always be heard to gauge a whole season by the premiere episode, but I felt pretty good about this episode.

First, I was terrified. I mean, there is a killer clown silently terrorizing the countryside! I had to watch through my fingers.

Second, no flashbacks! YAY! I'm hoping this applies to the whole season and not just the premiere, but I was glad that they didn't feel the need to keep going from past to present. I don't mind the occasional shot that takes place in the past to give us a visual of a certain situation, like Elsa finding the bearded lady in the jail. But I'm happy that it appears this gimmick may be gone.

Third, the two-headed special effects are freaky good. I also love the characters, the idea of the strong sister and the simple sister, yet they are bound together. Especially with the hint of romance between each of them and Evan Peters' character. Dating would be very awkward with a second sentient head.

Fourth, we have a nice collection of plot lines already started but I don't feel overwhelmed. We have the murdered FBI agent cover-up, the insane clown posse of one, and the freak show itself. OH and whatever Frances Conroy and her creepy as "son" are up to. **shivers**

The musical number (which I just found out was a David Bowie cover) was fantastic in it's creepiness. I'm sort of assuming that we saw what Elsa wanted us to see, that the show itself is probably not that well done, that Elsa's singing is probably nowhere near as good. I'm wondering if the next showtime we will see reality.

Also, did she lose her legs in the war or was she born that way?

SO MANY QUESTIONS!

Did anyone else watch yet??? Curious about your initial reaction.

I watched it in the morning on a bright sunny day and I was still creeped out!

That will likely be my plan :) It looks terrifying but I'm also interested to see what kind of story the weave this season.
