Was Columbia House Music Club a thing for you? They got me when I just started college with the whole "get 12 CDs for a PENNY plus $5 for the next one" so I had a horrible collection of bad late 90s music that I got "but only for a penny" (does math of how much it cost to meet the minimum conditions LOL yeah...)

But, yes, after that I quickly learned to see if I liked a whole album or artist first. But now that I have Spotify and can listen to whole albums through before buying them, I have actually bought more stuff!
