making me hungry for all the wrong reasons

Some of you will be very happy to know that I finally watched Hannibal. Well, the first two episodes.

If I didn't have to be to work in 30 minutes, I'd probably finish off the first disc.

And WTF why is it not streaming on Netflix of Hulu? Who owns the rights to this show and is being such a dick about it??

I knew it was Bryan Fuller, which was what made me think I might like it, but I didn't realize Caroline Dhavernas was in it! :D Maybe they can get some other Fuller alums on the show...who will then probably die horribly but whatever!

(also, how awkward is the extras casting process for this show? "Hey Bob, I found the perfect part for you! Slightly creepy guy who turns out to be a horrible murderer! I think you look the part! Totally YOU!" ... "uh thanks?" "Sandy - you would be PERFECT as this week's corpse!" "yay?")

Lol I would like to think that these actors realised it was going to be a hot ticket and offered to be involved any way that they could. Maybe they didn't have time to properly guest star so yep, dead person will do sure~ :P

As I posted, so much love for this show. So creeeepy. I think it really brings so much to it that Mads has his normal accent. It is a difference in the room and it fits the precision of Hannibal so well I think?

Also Lawrence will always be Morpheous to me but he is pretty damn fabulous in this show too :D

And yeah I don't know why no legal stream places have it. Hence why I'm doing it, ya know, the other way....

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2014-06-12 10:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently it's only NOT streaming in the US! Canada and Europe have access to Hannibal via Netflix. WTF.

Though, bonus, the DVD I had out from the library had no requests on it so I was able to renew it for another 7 days! Should be able to put a dent in it before having to *ahem* acquire Season 2.

Once I'm all caught up, I'll have to go back and look for your posts. Be ready for the very late spazzing on my part. And Mads was quickly overtaking Hopkins in my mind. He is just so creepy in his own way. Just in those first two episodes, I was sold.

LOLOL If Lawrence ever offers Graham any pills, I'm gonna lose it (but they should totally do it).

mawaha. I wanted to watch this show but couldn't find it anywhere to watch, but knowing that Canada had it on netflix let me...re-arrange.... my access to watch it! Super excited! And Canada has Californication on their netflix too. SCORE.

Welcome to the fold, my friend! Should I add your initial to our Official Fannibal Sigil? (Although we might need another name besides "We Fannibals Three" now...)

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2014-06-12 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL is it really "Fannibals"??

And joy of joys, the other person who had the DVD on hold had suspended their holds so I was able to renew the set!!! I'm either going to try to get Tim hooked on the show or watch the next episode tonight (what is up with the one that says "NEVER AIRED ON TV" ??)

[identity profile] rhoda-rants.livejournal.com 2014-06-13 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, we are Fannibals, and we are Proud. Dude, when you're caught up enough to be okay with spoilers, check out NBC's official Tumblr. It is hilarious.

(what is up with the one that says "NEVER AIRED ON TV" ??)
Ah--okay. This one originally aired around the time of the Boston Marathon bombings, and since the subject matter was a little uncomfortable (like, more than usual), Fuller told them to pull it. It eventually went up on iTunes or something, but yeah, I can't blame him. That's the only one I watched just the one time without going back. Kids getting brainwashed and killing people with guns--it's that flavor of horrible. So . . . gird your loins.

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2014-06-14 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
I feel like after any national tragedy, shows of this nature should probably just take a break for a bit. Nothing they do will be appropriate for the time the world is mourning. (and, sadly, the episode wasn't all that upsetting out of that context. I found the next one, with the guy who had the brain tumor and the "angel" to be far more icky. My stomach was turning)

Also interesting that these episodes say "producer's cut" -- any idea what was left out of the episodes that aired on TV?

I've been meaning to watch Hannibal since it began, but I'm so slow to get around to TV these days :( I didn't realise Netflix didn't stream it in the US since they do on the Norwegian site, though.

What's your first impression of the show?

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2014-06-12 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently it's just US Netflix that doesn't have it! Stupid whoever-owns-the-rights! ARGH! Enjoy your ability to stream it! If you start watching now, we could both be spazzing out at the same time!! :D

So far, I really like it. I've only ever seen Silence of the Lambs so my knowledge of the character begins and ends there. I feel like the main character, Graham, has enough going for him on the positive side that I can root for him, and it should balance out the creepy side of Hannibal. But it's only been two episodes. I'm really curious where it's all going to end up! It's definitely on the gruesome side but right now the story is working for me.

Oh. I suppose people can use VPN to access European versions of Netflix, but that's a hassle. Maybe it's up for streaming somewhere else in the US? *clueless face*

Hm, I might start it soon. I have the house to myself this weekend, so lots of time to do stuff when I'm not at work.

I'm so much more squeamish about gore now than I was when I was younger, but hopefully I can stomach it!

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2014-06-13 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
Well, so far none of the gore has caught me off guard, plenty of time to cover your eyes. :)

Right now, Hulu only has the latest 3 episodes. I really wish the network suits would stop fighting streaming. Luckily, the library has the DVD of Season 1 so I can watch it easily.

[identity profile] geekslave.livejournal.com 2014-06-12 11:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Haven't started watching the show yet. I'm not necessarily averse to squeamish stuff, I watch "The Walking Dead", but I did hear this show can get pretty out there in that way and I wasn't sure I was wanting to start another dark, depressing show. Plus, for both seasons I was worried about its extremely high chances of cancellation, so held off.

I'll probably try it soon, after I catch up on a few other shows.

It's not available on Netflix or Hulu (at least I don't think the first season is on Hulu) in the US, but is available on Amazon Prime. You have to have a yearly subscription to Prime to access it.

LOL the first thing I did was google to see if it had been renewed. Is this the first Bryan Fuller show to make it to 3 seasons?

It really was his name that drew me to the show. He has this obsession with death and how we deal with it that has been addressed in all of his series with a bit of dark humor.

ARGH STUPID PRIME! I really hate the Prime Only thing. Orphan Black is on there too. I'm already paying for Netflix and Hulu, I don't really need Amazon...plus they are pissing me off now with the whole hachette debacle. But my Mom does have Prime so I could probably access it...if I wanted to...MWAHAHAHA!

[identity profile] geekslave.livejournal.com 2014-06-13 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
I think Bryan Fuller had something to do with "Heroes" and that had about four seasons.

Yeah, that's where I've been catching up on "Orphan Black." I wasn't really interested in getting Prime, but I'm an idiot and I signed up for a free trial to get free shipping on some stuff and forgot to cancel, so I have it for the next few months. There's a lot of overlap, especially with the movies, with Netflix and Hulu, but they are starting to get a lot more exclusive television shows, like a bunch of HBO programs and they have "Veronica Mars."

But if you can get access to it for free...woohoo! :)

Stacey

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2014-06-14 03:47 am (UTC)(link)
I forgot about that one...though he is just co-executive producer or something...not sure if it was his baby the way those other shows were (Heroes...you had SO much potential...why????)

[identity profile] geekslave.livejournal.com 2014-06-14 06:16 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I think the main guy for "Heroes" was Tim Kring. I have no idea if Fuller will have anything to do with the reboot.

Yep, "Heroes" started off strong and fizzled alarmingly fast.

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2014-06-14 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
wait...they are going to do another series of HEROES????

[identity profile] geekslave.livejournal.com 2014-06-14 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep! It's going to be a reboot/mini-series like they're currently doing with the show "24." Supposedly, it'll be all new characters, though I've heard some of the old cast may make appearances.

I have mixed feelings about this...mostly because this is what they should have done in the first place! But I'm sure the blame lies more on the studio than the writers. But now with the popularity of shows like "American Horror Story", showing studios that the audience will follow a good set of writers and actors just as much as characters, this is probably more feasible now.

**sigh** but I'm not sure I can take it!

[identity profile] elizalavelle.livejournal.com 2014-06-13 12:49 pm (UTC)(link)
I have not watched Hannibal yet but it is on my to watch list and is one I want to watch sooner rather than later.

Ugh not streaming on Netflix is not a wise choice. Streaming is the way of the future.

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2014-06-14 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
Looks like Canadian Netflix *should* have it, it appears the restrictions are just on the US Netflix. ARGH! Thank goodness I convinced the library to order hehe.

[identity profile] elizalavelle.livejournal.com 2014-06-16 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
I found it on there! I can't figure out why we'd get it and the US wouldn't. That's odd.

[identity profile] thekaiserchief.livejournal.com 2014-06-13 11:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I gave this show a chance, but it just wasn't my cup of tea.

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2014-06-14 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
I tried to get Tim to watch it last night but he got through the pilot and said no thanks. It's definitely on the darker end of my viewing spectrum. Not sure where it is going either...if it takes a wrong turn, I could see it venturing into territory I'm not interested in going to.
