I do not like it when someone sends me instructions in VIDEO format and
only video format. When I'm at work, I don't have easy access to sound on
my computer (hello, LIBRARY) so it's a bit of a hassle to find headphones
and sit and listen to a 20 minute video on how to log into a Wiki and
manage a page. Just TELL me in writing. The video can be a supplement, but
I prefer to read instructions and work through something.

This also applies to news articles I want to read and then click to find
out it's a video only report. LAME.

Video format can be a waste of time because you can't just have a quick look and find the part you want.

In general I don't like videos that I have to watch. Meaning if it needs to be seen in any sort of time frame I'm not interested. I'm with you. WRITTEN instructions.

A big YEP. I hate that videos seem to be the in-thing now. Just give me the quick version in writing! Don't make me sit there listening to your mumbled voice while you play awful music in the background.

Not a fan of videos only either. I skip "articles" if they're video only unless the topic really interests me. Added to this, I rarely share videos anywhere unless I find them incredible.

I'm generally the same way about video only news articles. If I click a link and find a video, I usually skip it.

YES, THIS! I'm in this weird position with our ILL stuff where I have to make the program work, but am not involved in its day to day use or included in most of the training events. The documentation for whenever I have to do anything? All video. JUST TELL ME WHAT TO CLICK! I don't want to waste 5 minutes on a video with no sound!

I couldn't agree more about the news article thing. I don't like when yahoo link to news stories and it ends up being a video as I much prefer to actually read about something. To be honest I just think it's rather lazy.

Looks like we're all in agreement here! I simply won't watch video news or instructions. I feel I haven't lost much.

Now entertaining "instructions,' like "An Engineer's Guide to Cats, " or Hank Green explaining some aspect of science, that I'll do if/when I have the time.

oh of course! And usually with Hank Greek I EXPECT a video! But when I see a "click here to learn how to log into the LATI wiki" I just want instructions! I know how to internet, thank you!

Exactly! It's hard to skim for what you need. Especially with misleading headlines, there's nothing like clicking on a link, seeing it's a video and also realizing it has nothing to do with what you thought it was.

Exactly! I save my video watching for FUN things. Plus, when it's step by step instructions, a video is not helpful for an online thing because you end up having to juggle two windows on your desktop. I get very annoyed by tech for tech's sake. Sometimes an old school checklist is still the way to go!

LOL! For sure. Especially with the videos made by local training groups that are pretty much just screen captures, so no fancy editing and you get to stumble through anything they stumble on or wait for the page to load...I have other things to do!

There should be a rule. I wonder if they bother to count the clicks that go to a page, see it's a video and immediately close the window.

Yep, sometimes you just want a step by step checklist so you can skip to the part you actually need help on. It's like looking at Google Directions. I know how to get out of my neighborhood, I skip to where things get crazy! haha.

Uuuugh seriously! I *HATE* this! I work for a big global company, so most of the people I deal with on a daily basis are not in the same country as me. And people keep insisting on desktop sharing or recording videos to physically show me how to do things. NOOOO. Just.. send me some written instructions, and supplement it with a video if you absolutely have to, but if you "teach" me with a video only, you bet I'll forget that shit the next day.

Most people learn best from actually reading rather than listening to a video so only having video instructions means they'll probably have a lot more people having issues and askin for more help.

Agreed on the articles that turn out to be videos. At work sometimes I want a 5 minute break just to read something not work related and a video is not an option for me. Boo urns.
