Highlight of my evening:

Library Customer: *holding book from our shelf* This author will be in town
tomorrow but I won't get the book I bought until next week, can I just take
your copy to get signed?
Me: Um...no.
Library Customer: But I'll get you a replacement next week!
Me: You'll have to pay for the copy you take.
Library Customer: Yeah, it's like two dollars online.
Me: No, you'll need to pay the replacement fee which is the retail price of
the book.
Customer: I could just be dishonest and take it.
Me: That would be stealing.
Library Customer: Oh! I'm not going to argue with you! Thank you for
being so close-minded!!!
Me: You're welcome, goodnight.

close-minded? WTF - who even thinks things like that and who wants a library copy to sign instead of an un-marked/un-stickered copy?
Also, if the author is signing you can just get a copy there and return the one you ordered.
