tv thoughts: Dollhouse

Ramblings about Dollhouse - True Believer

I have to say, I really enjoyed this episode, mostly because you could really fee the Tim Minear touch. Again, I wasn't super thrilled with the main plot, but all the little things happening around the plot have gotten a lot more intriguing.

- The scene between Topher and FredClaire in regards to Viktor's "man reaction" was hilarious. I probably could have watched an entire show of that haha. ("Can you freeze that?" "NO!") Of course, the whole comedic moment masked something much more sinister - what will they do to Viktor or Sierra to remove temptation?? It's not his fault! Or her fault!

- The story of the religious cult didn't do anything for me, mostly because it wasn't as deep as I had hoped. I did appreciate the twist that it was the cop who planted the "Save Me" note, but since the Dollhouse isn't law enforcement, solving that mystery doesn't mean anything - that guy won't be punished.

- speaking of people that need to be caught, what's up with the Gray-Haired-Dude at the Dollhouse that hates Echo so much? When he snuck into the church and punched her in the face, he just leaves...what is he, a James Bond villian? ("I'll just assume everything has gone to plan...what? what?") Or is he just supposed to be a total masochist and he likes to hit her because he knows there will be no repracussions? He had to know that her Watcher would rescue her!

- more pieces to the puzzle - what is the Boss Lady's connection with Echo? She really doesn't want her touched (at least by HER people). Hm...something tells me that Caroline/Echo's case might have been different from the average Dolls?

- I really don't want their to be a romantic relationship between Echo and Special Agent Helo Paul. He appears to be married to his work anyhow, but I would also feel very bad for Mellie. They are clearly setting them up in some way (though being a Whedon show, he'll notice her the episode before they decide to shoot her dead.)

I can't wait until they move away from the assignment-of-the-week format and get into the main story arc. I'm sure FOX pressured Joss to make it have more stand-alone episodes, but you know he can't be held back for long. The show has me asking questions, which is good because it means I'm engaged, right?

Ha! That wouldn't surprise me in the least.
Lasagna-girl (actually I think it was manicotti this episode) is a strange one. I think she's a doll.

THANK GOODNESS I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS SHE'S A DOLL.

*clears throat* Ahem. ^^;;;

*see above*

It appears there is an army of us. XD

Yes! I am not alone! *runs in circles*

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2009-03-16 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
I assumed she was a doll but then they revealed that Viktor was the doll and it made me less suspicious of her. But maybe that was their plan all along!!!

[identity profile] faeriesfolly.livejournal.com 2009-03-16 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
ha!

I am still holding out that they get together and the plot twist that pulls them apart is that she is a Doll too.
We're all clearly on the same page.

People have told me that it gets better soon. :/

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2009-03-16 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
With each episode the show gets a little better. Even when the plots are not quite up the snuff, the acting and characterization has improved, and we all know how important that stuff is in a Whedon series. :)

-- An episode that should be called 'Topher & Claire watch shower porn' -- I loved how she kept using all these words for it. XD It's like she was poking at him with all the technical terms. And I have to say I am now going to use, "He just went from 6 to 12" as a euphemism for an erection now. Poor little Topher.

-- Yeah I was a little disappointed by the cult thing. I'm usually more interested in that kind of plot, but it was hardly developed. It was more about that one ATF officer being a douche and the security officer at the Dollhouse being a douche than anything else.

-- He should DIAF. I really don't like him, and clearly from the end Echo remembers that he is not a good person. Like in the earlier episode when he was telling her all this mean stuff to her face right in the middle of the Dollhouse. What a fuckwit.

-- Yeah DeWitt (boss lady) seems to be getting fed up with the security officer guy's douchebaggery too. Which is promising.

-- Mellie/Paul ftw. Which means it will go down in flames just after he realizes she's there and has boobs or just after they get together. Plus, I am still holding out that they get together and the plot twist that pulls them apart is that she is a Doll too. I loved that interaction with them this episode though with her bringing his meds and having a key to his place. (D'awwww) Plus some manicotti. lol. I relate to her so much. Lookit! I made you some food! Love me?

-- The preview for next weeks...let's just say I can see why they kept saying wait till episode 6. It looks good.

nice, now I have my icon text for the dollhouse icon challenge this week hahahaha (wait, did I just disqualify myself?) My personal favorite was "Well, it's not oak, but it could be wood soon" HA!

I'm calling him Officer Fuck Wit in the rest of my recaps. I suggest you do the same to avoid confusion.

DeWitt...why can I not remember that!?

[identity profile] faeriesfolly.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
lol. My lips are sealed, my friend. Also...dollhouse icon challenge, you say?

Oh I certainly can be on board with that one. I have no interest in recalling his real name.

Prolly for the same reason that I can't remember her first name. XD

i think the Boss Lady is attached to Echo because she is one of the original dolls- the only one to survive the Alpha Massacre. but there could be something more to it... and maybe the douchey gray haired guy was the man behind the man behind the massacre, and he dislikes Echo because she somehow survived which put a damper on things? i am probably wrong, but it's fun to speculate.

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
Oooooooh I like this theory. I guess I forgot that Echo was the only survivor. And now Alpha is focused on her. Hm...hm...hm...

The standalone aspects of each episode don't do anything for me, and takes me back to the initial episodes of Angel before Joss realised that we wanted to see more the group dramatic as opposed to a creature feature of the week.

I'm with [livejournal.com profile] collswan on the whole Mellie being a doll thing. No one cooks that much unless programmed to do so -dies-

I can't wait for this week's episode as both Eliza and Joss have been pitching episode six as the episode when the show really comes alive :-)

It's going to be FRAKKIN' AWESOME!

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh good comparison to s1 Angel. I recently rewatched that (while getting a friend hooked) and was so thrown by how uneven that first season was. I think I actually let her skip a few episode so we could get to the awesome of Season 2. (I <3 the Pylea arc)

Hahhaha, yeah, Mellie is a rogue doll and her special skill is Italian Pastas! Maybe Alpha has problems with Gluten and she will kill him with a lasagna.

I want it to be Friday...but not BSG Friday, just Dollhouse Friday. hehe.

[identity profile] girly-scribbles.livejournal.com 2009-03-17 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Season 2 is my favourite season of Angel, but not because of Pylea (not one of my fav arcs :-(), but because of Darla!! Dangel is my OTP!!

-DIES- I think you've just uncovered the big reveal for the season finale. Death by Pasta... it could happen.

I have to wait until Saturday for both -cries- I'll be up early dling both :-)

"Man-reaction" cracked me the hell up too. I am so 12-years-old sometimes. =P

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2009-03-18 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
oh we were LOLing too. And then we re-inacted the scene for Amy the next day and giggled about it the rest of the night...nothing wrong with that! haha.

can't wait to see you Saturday! Is Dave coming too?
