tv thoughts: Dollhouse 1.12 - OMEGA

okay okay, now that I've had a few days to mull it over...thoughts on the season finale of Dollhouse

[livejournal.com profile] faeriesfolly was right, Dr. Saunders is a doll. Or was a doll? I guess the question here is - how long can a doll have the same personality before they are that person. I mean, you could say that Echo is not any of the people she has been imprinted with, because she is them for only a day or two at most. But as far as we can tell, Claire has been Dr. Saunders for a year now, ever since the attack...

While we're on the subject, do you think there was a Pre-Whiskey/Topher connection? He seems very upset when he finds her at his computer and when he says "You didn't look, you don't want to know who you are?", the emotion in his voice made me think they had a connection before she was a doll. Even more so because of the line that Claire says back "Why was it so important that I hate you?" - they must have been romantically involved at some point, or maybe Topher was just attracted to her and felt it would be safer if he knew she was not attracted to him at all...

Does this mean something similar will happen with Victor? I don't want him sent to the attic but what use will they have for a doll that has the same scars as The Joker? Who will they turn Victor into? Can he become a handler? Or will they just program him to be the janitor or something? Will Claire insist on keeping him, maybe as an assistant of some kind, because she understands (sort of) his pain?

So, the original set of dolls were prisoners? All of them or just Alpha? What about Whiskey? Now I'm wondering about that connection between her and Topher again...

Alan Tudyk was owning this week's episode as Alpha. He managed to make you feel bad for him, then be scary as hell, and then realize that he was just nucking futs beyond all belief. And he got away, of course, so he will be back! Though him and Paul have something in common - their obsession with Echo/Caroline has very little to do with who she really is, but just her exterior. I mean, both of them decided that they needed to save her without ever consulting her. and really, both of them want to change her - Alpha wants to force her to live with all of her imprints and Paul wants to drag her back into the world she was trying to avoid.

Boyd might be my favorite character on the show. I can't wait (or, I guess I should say, I HOPE) until we find out his backstory - even Paul sensed that there was more to him than he let on. They will make a great team next season *crosses fingers*

Omega/Echo was amazingly cool. Becase, at Echo's core is Caroline, and Caroline is a good person so even though Alpha assumed giving her all the imprints at once would make her want to team up with him, he forgot about that part of her that is always there. The showdown between the two of them was great, especially with Alpha holding a gun to the harddrive "wedge". LOL!

And Paul finally got to save Caroline, though not in the way he had imagined.

The ending did feel a bit rushed, like there was another 15 minutes in there somewhere that we lost. And I was surprised to see that so much of the Dollhouse was still intact and that they were willing to take Echo back into the fold so quickly. I found the story of the people at the dollhouse (paul, boyd, claire, topher, dewitt) a lot more interesting than Echo's story, even though I wanted to see more Crazy!Alpha. But the idea that she was everyone at once, that Topher had somehow hollowed her out inside enough for her to be Echo and all of the others, and still have Caroline at her core in some weird way...great idea.

I want to see where it is going, I really do, but I wouldn't be surprised if FOX didn't pick it up. It might be too cerebral for them, no matter how many tank tops they put Eliza in. But stranger things have happened.

Yeah I definitely think there was something with Claire/Topher before she was Whiskey/Claire. I really want a Whiskey icon. haha. And Whiskey/Alpha? How hot was that? Ummm yep. I said it. Maybe she was the birthday doll before Sierra--remember Sierra hasn't been there the whole time and was new since the Alpha incident.

Speaking of Alpha...omg. Alan Tudyk is, yet again, amazing. That is all. There HAS to be more of him as Alpha.

The Omega/Echo and Caroline interaction was pretty cool.

The end DID seem really rushed. Not to mention soooooo many lose ends! We need a second season like we need air. YA HEAR ME FOX???

I loved how he did save Mellie though. For all his omg save Caroline focus, he still gave her back to the Dollhouse. He could have traded his help for her, but he chose Mellie instead. *sigh* She looked so pretty, and the way he was watching her was sad. When he walked over and asked her name, I crumbled inside. And when she asked his name... "I'm nobody." *WEEPS* On the good side, Joss likes to torture, so if when there is a second season, there is a good chance that she'll still be around. Whether she was really released or not. DUN DUN DUN. Cause it would be just like them to not honestly restore her as arranged. She did seem to be rather Mellie still (just a more confident Mellie...post neighborly Mellie. haha.)

Oooh the birthday doll...maybe she was the birthday doll but now she's doctor Saunders and to keep him from falling for her, he made her hate him....that would work. And would be cruel enough for Joss LOL!

I really hope that Mellie comes back, or at least the girl comes back. Maybe something will happen, whatever sent her to the house in the first place, will resurface and they will need to protect her.

I hope we find out. :)

It's like trying to figure out the final cylons... who's a doll?
I saw November right away, Victor when he broke into the apartment, but Dr. Saunders threw me for a loop. What about Adel? What about Boyd? Is everyone a doll?

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2009-05-11 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
yes, very Cylon-y. It's like a house full of Sharons. I'm very wary of the handlers because their jobs are so important I could see a few of them being "retired" actives (too old for the hot jobs). I don't think Boyd is though...see, this is why the show needs another season (waves at FOX, "PAY ATTENTION!")

I think you're probably right about Topher/Whiskey. I hadn't thought of that before, but it makes perfect sense.

As for Victor--well, some people like scars on a man! And surely they can send him on non-romantic engagements, right? I don't want him to just be a janitor!

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2009-05-11 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
He'll have to at least hang around the house. He just wants to be his best! Why can't they just let him be his best? I'm sure Alpha killed someone on his way out of the Dollhouse that Victor can replace.

I imagine they'll do the same thing to Victor that they did to Whiskey. If I had to guess...I'd say Victor will probably become the new Dominic. We already know they actor can mimic that character perfectly and it would just be awesome, what with the foreshadowing.

Yeah. Topher/Whiskey definately have a past. Just now sure what it might be. LOVED Amy/Alan in those Whiksey/Alpha scenes. Incredible chemistry.

And Paul...I hope his creepy Caroline obsession is not behind him 'cause it made it hard for me to like him...and I really wanted to. He gained some points in my book when he saved the RIGHT girl. I hope we see some Paul/Madeline interaction next season 'cause Tahmoh and Miracle have too much chemistry to waste.

LOVE Boyd and I wish he'd played a bigger role in the finale but I imagine we'll see more of him in the 2nd season. His backstory should be really interesting. I'd love to see more of the Paul/Boyd TEAM OF AWESOME. And, of course, I want Boyd to go back to being Echo's handler.

All in all, a great SEASON finale. I refuse to believe that's all we get.

yeah, I really don't want to lose Miracle as an actress, she's just so unique and I liked November/Mellie/Madeline and Paul.

Come on FOX, make the right decision!!!
