my "souvenirs"

I managed to snag a bunch of random stuff while in Portland, ME and Boston, MA this week. I had a big list of CDs to look for from bands that [livejournal.com profile] lostacanthus had put on her HUGE mix that she gave me earlier this year, plus a few other random people I wanted to hear more from. I managed to find one CD by every band I wanted for under $10 each. So, [livejournal.com profile] faeriesfolly, we have a LOT of listening material for our drive to Atlanta (OMG 16 days to go!!!!!!)

So here's what I managed to pick up:
Mae - Singularity
The Hush Sound - Goodbye Blues
The Fratellis - Costello Music
Regina Spektor - Soviet Kitsch
Belle & Sebastian - Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like A Peasant
A Fine Frenzy - One Cell in the Sea
Kate Nash - Made of Bricks
Ingrid Michaelson - Be Ok

Along with that, I picked up a few comics because it is a tradition at this point. I picked up the 3rd Volume of Runaways in hardcover, and managed to get the rest of the issues of Buffy Season 8 w/ Jo Chen covers, except for #24 - so if you happen to see that one in your local comic shop, let me know (actually, I need to check my OWN local comic shop). Did two impulse purchaes of books I had been wanting to read - the first trade in Terry Moore's ECHO series "Moon Lake" was on display by the check-out desk so I snagged it, plus I grabbed 'Too Cool To Be Forgotten' by Alex Robinson, which I read on the plane last night and LOVED.

Oh, and I picked up a button at Newbury comics that says "I was Uncool before Uncool was Cool".

They had the Fangtasia shirt there, but I resisted buying it. Seemed sorta small. Plus, now I have my Merlotte's shirt and I just ordered a new pair of black shorts from Kohl's so my True Blood outfit is ready to go.

HOORAY! I am already counting it as 15 days! lol. I can't believe in a little over two weeks we are going to be driving to Dragon*Con!!! This is MADNESS. It has been forever since I was on a vacation that was not with my parents/family members. (And I mean that. It's been like 5 years at least. lol.) I still have so much to do! AHHHHHH.

I am just out of my mind excited!!!! I have a horrible feeling these next two weeks will DRAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaag because I am so excited about D*Con.

I'm taking my Mini in for a check-up next week to make sure she is ready for the long journey. I figure we can hit your local grocery store when I come up and buy driving snack foods.

I keep thinking of things I want to bring...need to start a physical list.

[identity profile] faeriesfolly.livejournal.com 2009-08-17 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
YAY!!!!

Heck yes. We can just go to Wally World and hit up everything. haha.

I already know I am going to bring far too many THINGS. (i.e. not clothes/costume-related/toiletries) But that is OK. I also need to clean again, because getting sick totally wrecked my room. That needs to be remedied. (Especially since my grandfather has taken over the hall/guest bathroom, so you will be a-creepin in my bathroom and don't need to be a-trippin over stuff. haha.)

Today straight up was dragging. I hope this is not a taste of things to come. (14 more days since I am already not counting today any longer!)

Oh and when I say mess I mean super clutter and not like...condemned, haunted slum. lol. I don't want you to think OHMIGAWD what did I get myself into?? Plus we will have margaritas and then who really cares where they stay heehee.

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2009-08-20 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
well, you do live in West Virginia, so I wasn't sure what to expect I'm sure it will be fine! As long as your grandpa doesn't confuse me for a burglar if I get up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night. Something tells me he can be feisty if caught off guard. ;-)

[livejournal.com profile] jellibean suggests we get snacks for our room too, we need to make a shopping list!

[identity profile] faeriesfolly.livejournal.com 2009-08-20 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
har har har. XD

Ooooooh snacks! We will invade the stores and conquer the munchies!

"Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like A Peasant" is literally THE LAST B&S album I need to complete my collection. *is jealous*

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2009-08-17 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
oh man, you should go to Boston and hit up their used CD stores, twee central up there haha. My friend [livejournal.com profile] bittertwee is a HUGE B&S fan, and she made me a mix last year, so I wanted to get a full on album now.

welcome back! And if I don't say so later, have a FABULOUS time at D*C (that is why you're going to Atlanta, right?).

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2009-08-17 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you! Yep, going to Atlanta for Dragon*Con! I haven't been to any fan-run conventions before, and the only other two I have attended were all Star Wars, so this should be quite an adventure. I'm so excited. Plus, I get to meet two long-time Livejournal buddies. So much awesome.

[identity profile] lostacanthus.livejournal.com 2009-08-17 05:41 am (UTC)(link)
I'm so glad you liked The Hush Sound and Mae! They are two of my favorite bands ♥ (I did kind of load that mix with them, didn't I? x)) Also, One Cell in the Sea and Made of Bricks are both really really good too! I love Kate Nash.

Which comic shop do you go to, Twilight Zone or Empyre? I've only been to Empyre - I work practically next door! It's so convenient x)
ext_166399: (Trek: Spock is logically awesome)

Fratellis will forever remind me of living in Edinburgh. Plus... They are so FUN! :)
