Is this historical fiction? It's a genre I've never really read much of, I thought history/social science was a terribly complicated subject when I was in school, so fiction that plays around with actual historical events get a little confusing to me. xD; Sad, but true. Thankfully, I love history now, and I read up on as much stuff as possible. It boggles the mind that my old teachers were able to make history boring. HOW DOES THAT EVEN HAPPEN?

I'm still miffed I can't find the quote about George Washington having a swearing fit. IT REALLY HAPPENED! Wish that had been in the text books.
But, yes, I highly recommend anything by Sarah Vowell. My personal favorite is "Assassination Vacation", where she talks about American's obsession with murdered presidents, their assassins and their corpses. It's hilarious and informative.
I think far too many of my history teachers were either coaches who needed a full time job or just so pressured to "get through the history" they didn't have time to make it come alive.
