tv thoughts: Community S04.E02 Paranormal Parentage

Paranormal Parentage
Ah, Halloween episodes. I'm sure shows curse themselves once they have had a succesful Halloween episode because, after that, they know the fans will want one every year...or at least they feel obligated to do one. I know the Simpsons crew pretty much stopped making them for awhile, starting their season later into the fall to avoid it...and now Community must also maintain it.
It's just too bad NBC decided to run it on Valentine's Day. **facepalm**
I actually liked this episode a LOT more than last year's Horror Fiction in Seven Spooky Tales. I liked the story, even if it was the usual Pierce-wants-attention storyline, I think I was fine with that because it was more the excuse to get them into the house rather than the main story.
Still not feeling Troy/Britta and I almost feel like the writers aren't either. There were SO many scenes in this episode that were more Troy/Annie. I'm not really big into shipping characters but if you told me I HAD to pick couples, that is the way I would go -- Troy/Annie, Jeff/Britta. Either way, I felt their friendships came through a bit more in this episode, Britta back to trying to diagnose people against their will and Annie being super sweet and understanding.
OMG "My ring girl" was such a great gag.
Abed and Troy as Calvin and Hobbes was genius. I love how no one ever STATES who they are, you either pick up on it or have to be told (I heard about it on GetGlue first, spoilers grrrr).
There were probably all kinds of homages to horror films that I missed (The scene when Annie was yelling in the hallway that she wasn't going to get any references they were making to horror films was sorta how I felt LOL).
I'm wondering who they will get for Jeff's Dad. I mean, this is clearly going to be a thing for this season so what random actor can they cast for maximum impact...are they going to go the route of having him be just as attractive and metrosexual as Jeff, or have him be the polar opposite - i.e. more like Britta LOL. We will see.
I felt this episode was moving in the right direction at least. The ratings were terrible but I'm sure people were not watching a lot of TV on Valentine's evening at 8pm (Ugh, I HATE the new time slot) and those who came across it be accident were probably confused by the Halloween theme - either assumed it was a rerun or just said WTF and changed the channel.
INDOOR SWINGS and SECRET DOGS will now be regular lines that I shout out randomly.
:D
