Ask Me Anything #14

[livejournal.com profile] xfirefly9x asked: What is your favourite word(s)?

perfunctory - used to describe something that is done without energy or enthusiasm because of habit or because it is expected.

(Found this word when reading 'Hitchhiker's Guide' and I've always loved the sound of it...wish I could use it more often)

shenanigans - a devious trick used especially for an underhand purpose

(We say this at work a lot, usually "NO SHENANIGANS!" when we talk about what the evening shift will hold. It's fun to say)

and also "frak"

I love the word shenanigans.

Very good words! I wish I could come up with such a catchy fake swear word as 'frak'. I still catch myself using it sometimes. But I agree, shenanigans is the best.

A good LJ friend of mine uses "shenanigans" a lot, and an ex-coworker of mine also, and it's quite catching! I have definitely started using it more since I met them -- it's such a fun word to say!

"frak" - me too XD

and I'll have to start using "perfunctory" too.

"shenanigans" was the fav word of a high school friend who ditched me once we graduated, so...

Great choices!

I love shenanigans.

I am obsessed with "shenanigans" and I use it for way more meanings than I should.

Shenanigans is a great word :D

[identity profile] ragnarok-08.livejournal.com 2016-03-14 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I love that word :3

I approve of your favorite words! I have lots, including shenanigans (and the always useful "tomfoolery"), but right now the one coming to mind is subpoena, because it's spelled weird, and I like over-complicating things. Haha.

Shenanigans is one of my favourite words, too!

Love shenanigans. My husband likes to use it a lot and it always makes me giggle.

Those are all great words.

I didn't know "perfunctory" until they used it on the X-files! Any guesses as to the episode? :)

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2016-03-15 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
oh oh I feel like I know this one...if only because I'm always thrilled to hear that word in action...was it Clive Bruckman??

[identity profile] bittertwee.livejournal.com 2016-03-16 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
Wrong! Here's a clue. It was in a monologue at the end of an episode, after "life is like a box of chocolates", followed I *think* by "a cheap perfunctory gift", and then I forget the rest.

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2016-03-16 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
oh oh that sounds so familiar but...gah I CAN'T REMEMBER AND NOW YOU MUST TELL ME!!!!!!!!

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2016-03-17 10:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I knew it was one of the episodes with a really long title :)

[identity profile] kseenaa.livejournal.com 2016-03-15 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I think shenanigans is one of the coolest english words I know! :-D

[identity profile] night-owl-9.livejournal.com 2016-03-15 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
I love those words. I also have a fondness for "persnickety".

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2016-03-15 10:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooh that is a good one...I need to start using that one more often.
