[livejournal.com profile] xfirefly9x asked: What is your favourite word(s)?

perfunctory - used to describe something that is done without energy or enthusiasm because of habit or because it is expected.

(Found this word when reading 'Hitchhiker's Guide' and I've always loved the sound of it...wish I could use it more often)

shenanigans - a devious trick used especially for an underhand purpose

(We say this at work a lot, usually "NO SHENANIGANS!" when we talk about what the evening shift will hold. It's fun to say)

and also "frak"

Very good words! I wish I could come up with such a catchy fake swear word as 'frak'. I still catch myself using it sometimes. But I agree, shenanigans is the best.

A good LJ friend of mine uses "shenanigans" a lot, and an ex-coworker of mine also, and it's quite catching! I have definitely started using it more since I met them -- it's such a fun word to say!

"frak" - me too XD

and I'll have to start using "perfunctory" too.

"shenanigans" was the fav word of a high school friend who ditched me once we graduated, so...

Great choices!

I approve of your favorite words! I have lots, including shenanigans (and the always useful "tomfoolery"), but right now the one coming to mind is subpoena, because it's spelled weird, and I like over-complicating things. Haha.

I didn't know "perfunctory" until they used it on the X-files! Any guesses as to the episode? :)

oh oh I feel like I know this one...if only because I'm always thrilled to hear that word in action...was it Clive Bruckman??

Wrong! Here's a clue. It was in a monologue at the end of an episode, after "life is like a box of chocolates", followed I *think* by "a cheap perfunctory gift", and then I forget the rest.
