because I need more fandoms...

So, after hearing several people flail over the goodness that is Avatar:The Last Airbender (I blame [livejournal.com profile] snarkel for convincing me to finally add it to my Netflix queue) I caved and watched the first episode...and the second...and the third and fourth. I REALLY like it. I'm not a fan of anime, but it's not really anime, is it? It's like this weird mix of anime storytelling conventions but with a very Disneyfied/Western style that appeals to me. I love the sense of humor and the rich story that I can already tell is forming beneath it all. Again, the Netflix/Xbox360 deal really pays off for me. I'm going to watch an episode with breakfast every day. :D

The only anime I've watched multiple times is Princess Mononoke. I tried to watch Spirited Away - tried twice actually - and for some reason it always makes me naseous. I think it's just my poor Western brain trying to handle the Eastern cultural stuff. I think it overloads. Sad but true. I might try Ponyo if it gets good reviews.

Speaking of new fandoms, I watched the first episode of s4 of SPN today. I have a couple questions from the past season though - specifically to do with Ruby's Knife. Because they talks so much in the first few seasons about how demons were possessing bodies and how the person was trapped inside and you should try to save them blah blah blah - but doesn't stabbing them in the throat with a knife effectively kill the demon AND the person dead? They were pretty free wheelin' with the knife by the end of the season and I felt a bit conflicted about how they were no longer conflicted. Whatev, I'm just hoping to be caught up by September.

The Dollhouse Blu-Ray saga seems to be at an end. I placed a new order tonight and quickly called my credit card to say "OMG LET IT GO THRU FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!!!" which they said it did. I got a confirmation e-mail and unless I get some sort of paniced phone call/email from Fox Store tomorrow, I'm going to assume that this story is over until my friend comes back from Comic Con.

Miralce "Mellie" Laurie will be in Baltimore on Saturday at Shore Leave...and I have to work. :( I wonder how many people will ask her about vases...

I found my old Pandora log-in, so I'm reviving that account so I can use the iPhone app, which everyone says is far superior to the last.fm app. I spent a good chunk of time tonight bookmarking my favorite artists of the moment.

My rl friends and I need to pick our Harry Potter theater. I can't believe the premiere is next week!!! I have a feeling we'll just end up at Arundel Mills or West Nursery because our favorite midnight theater, The Senator, is no longer a first run theater. So sad. It won't be the same. Still, we have to see it at MIDNIGHT! I don't care what kind of shape I am in on Wednesday, I will be running on Harry Potter fueled adreniline. I wasn't in love with OotP, but HBP is HBP - it is meant to be seen on the big screen!

Alright, time for bed. Gotta read the next chapter in THE STRAIN and see if the vampires show up...though since it is a trilogy, I'm starting to get a bit concerned I might have to wait until 2010 to see some serious vamp action...

Yay!! I have The Strain too, though I haven't started it yet. I'll have to get rolling on it when I finish up one of my current reads.

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
yes start it! Then we can both complain about how we have to wait until 2010 to find out what happens next...

Try Howls's moving castle.

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
I keep meaning to watch that one! I'll put it on my Netflix list to remind myself!

Do you know anything about Ponyo, the next Miyazaki/Disney import?

[identity profile] lostacanthus.livejournal.com 2009-07-08 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
They were pretty free wheelin' with the knife by the end of the season and I felt a bit conflicted about how they were no longer conflicted.
lol that's a good point! x) I have absolutely no idea what changed. I feel like such a bad fan!

Is HP playing at Muvico at midnight? It wasn't listed on Fandango and I got all sad. Idk I'll check their website or something. (I am going to be so out of money this month!)
I'm probably going to end up taking my brother, lol. I think I've converted him or something? Idk but all of a sudden I'm getting him into like, Doctor Who and Torchwood and Robin Hood. ITS AWESOME.

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 04:46 am (UTC)(link)
Go to the Muvico website, you can order them now. I just bought mine because I'm paranoid once the weekend rolls around, people will just buy them while they are in the mall. You can bring your bro, if he can HANDLE the level of crazy that comes with a midnight showing ;-)

Ugghhhh I am so fucking pissed. I forgot I have to pay both of my credit card bills this week PLUS get my license renewed (which my mom is being a bitch about) so I have like, no money :((( I'm so fucking upset right now >:((

[personal profile] impalalove 2009-07-08 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
As for Supernatural, I'm honestly not sure. I think it was more of a "throw-way" plot, since they never really brought it up again. But I would imagine it'd kill both the host and the demon possessing it.

Out of all HP films, I've never seen OOTP on-screen. I refused to, since it dealt with the death of my favourite character. My friend's trying to drag me to HBP, so I guess, we'll see. (I'm feeling very 'meh' towards the movies lately.)

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 04:49 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't like OotP that much. I saw it at midnight, but I don't think I've rewatched it at all (and I even bought the DVD!) I was let down, I told someone I better be crying by the end, but I didn't cry so I felt someone (director/editor) dropped the ball in the storytelling.

I like New Ruby. She's a way better actress than blondie. I don't feel the urge to punch her in the face yet...

Avatar is not anime, period. It's written entirely by Westerners, for Nickeloden. They just borrow heavily from Eastern imagery and style in the building of their very pretty world.

...Gah, I really need to watch the last season.

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 04:47 am (UTC)(link)
how many seasons are there? Just the 4? Is it all over now?

[identity profile] demonqueen666.livejournal.com 2009-07-13 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
There are only three, actually (one for each of the four elements Aang has to learn, since he already knew Airbending). It's been over since...gah, I could be horribly wrong since I missed all of Fire and a big part of Earth, but I feel like it's been at least a year? A good while anyway.

I still haven't watched Avatar. My Fargo roomie was a huge fan.

Pandora is going to where if you listen for more than 40 hours, they are going to cut you off. They will give you the option to pay 99 cents to listen unlimited for the rest of that month, but 40 hours/month is the new free limit. Apparently I got the email notification, because I listen way more than 40 hours a month. lol.

I still haven't seen the LAST Harry Potter movie. haha. I am such a bad fan.

Speaking of bad fan, I also am WAY behind in SPN.

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 04:44 am (UTC)(link)
SO many people have told me about it, from teens that I talked to at the high school this summer to star wars friends to LJ friends. I gave in to the peer pressure. You should too, I think you would love it. It's got a great sense of humor.

Well, 40 hours is a lot...I'm gonna play around with it. I like how last.fm tracks my iTunes and knows what I listen to on my iPod and uses that to figure out new music for me...but Pandora's explanations seems so much more convincing haha.

Speaking of music, we need to plan out our road trip tunes! Do you have any banned artists that you do not allow played within 50 feet of you? Also, I think I might bring my Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy radio shows with us...at least the first one because it cracks me up. But I def. want to load up my iPod. I also have a CD player if you want to burn any mixes/CDs.

That's okay, OotP wasn't that great. I don't think I've re-watched it, even though I bought it on DVD (it was on sale).

Further behind than someone just starting s4? My goal is to be ready for the premiere in September.

[identity profile] faeriesfolly.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
I have missed like all of this Season and most of the last. Or whenever it was that Castiel started in and new Ruby showed up. I think that was the last ep I watched...well I take that back. I watched when Anna was first on...her little thingy storyline... Then I think one since, but I don't really remember.

Not really. I'd be up for just about anything. haha. I can't mix on my lappy, but I can bring all my random CDs. Your mixes, college mixes, mixes from my brother that make no sense... Plus the regular stuff too. Ooooh HHGttG radio show! Fun!

The last one I bought on DVD was PoA. hahahahahahahaha. I watched GoF after the DVD had been out for a good while. I am a bad fan.

[identity profile] orangerful.livejournal.com 2009-07-10 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I just watched the first episode season 4, and that is when Castiel shows up. That's the most recent season, so it sounds like you got halfway through last season.

Yeah, GoF wasn't very good either...I don't think I bothered rewatching that, now that you mention it...
