I was talking with [livejournal.com profile] marshmallow in my previous post about Supernatural and it made me remember something else about the show that needs to be fixed, though it might be too late at this point.

Bobby.

Now, don't get my wrong, I find him to be amusing and he was very helpful in the first two seasons. But let's face it Bobby = Gandalf/Obi-Wan...in other words, he should be dead by now.

I don't want him to die, but as Joss always says, don't give the audience what they want, but what they need. Sam & Dean have been falling back on Bobby for 5 years now and it's just getting a bit silly. They need to grow up, they should be skilled hunters by now, and I think the only real way for them to finally have faith in themselves is for Bobby to die.

But maybe it is too late. Gandalf and Obi-Wan die pretty early on in the story. We're 5 seasons in already and Bobby is just as feisty as ever. Would killing him off now do anything but make the boys even angstier?

I can hear you now, you're saying "But Sam, maybe he is a Giles! Giles made it through all 7 seasons of Buffy!" but I don't think Bobby ever occupied the trainer position that Giles had. Bobby's relationship with Sam & Dean is much more of the mentor than a watcher.

Sorry, just watched "Sympathy for the Devil" and for a moment there, I thought they had done it, but then it was just a flesh wound and he got better. Honestly, ever single time Bobby shows up, I expect him to die horribly. Really thought it would happen last season and be part of what pushed Sam to the dark side.

How many episodes have aired so far this season? I think my DVR has them all waiting for me and if this crap weather continues, I will watch a few more this weekend and try to get caught up.

So, I'm finally done with Season 4 of Supernatural (actually typing this while I watch "Lucifer Rising" - talk about spoilery title!) But there is something about the female characters these past two seasons that has really bothered me (and probably the reason it took me so long to finish season 4):

if you're somehow further behind than me on SPN, then spoilers! )

Went to the DCSWCC meeting and got my copy of Dollhouse from Jeff. The lenticular letter inside is pretty cool and ridiculous at the same time. I've got #142.

If you click through to the rest of the photos, you'll see the Adam Baldwin autograph up close, my Buffy Season 8 Gelaskin on my iPhone (so sexy) and lots of other random swag that I took from the free table that was brought back from SDCC.

I really want to go next year! Jeff said he reserved his hotel in December, January at the latest. So I think Dragon*Con will be the test and if I survive that, and feel like I can take it to the next level of crazy, I'll try go get passes to Comic Con 2010.

Oh, [livejournal.com profile] faeriesfolly - I snagged some True Blood handouts (go to my flickr page and you will see). I think I can scan the one postcard to create a Tru Blood label for some SOBE bottles so we can haz props!

So, after hearing several people flail over the goodness that is Avatar:The Last Airbender (I blame [livejournal.com profile] snarkel for convincing me to finally add it to my Netflix queue) I caved and watched the first episode...and the second...and the third and fourth. I REALLY like it. I'm not a fan of anime, but it's not really anime, is it? It's like this weird mix of anime storytelling conventions but with a very Disneyfied/Western style that appeals to me. I love the sense of humor and the rich story that I can already tell is forming beneath it all. Again, the Netflix/Xbox360 deal really pays off for me. I'm going to watch an episode with breakfast every day. :D

The only anime I've watched multiple times is Princess Mononoke. I tried to watch Spirited Away - tried twice actually - and for some reason it always makes me naseous. I think it's just my poor Western brain trying to handle the Eastern cultural stuff. I think it overloads. Sad but true. I might try Ponyo if it gets good reviews.

Speaking of new fandoms, I watched the first episode of s4 of SPN today. I have a couple questions from the past season though - specifically to do with Ruby's Knife. Because they talks so much in the first few seasons about how demons were possessing bodies and how the person was trapped inside and you should try to save them blah blah blah - but doesn't stabbing them in the throat with a knife effectively kill the demon AND the person dead? They were pretty free wheelin' with the knife by the end of the season and I felt a bit conflicted about how they were no longer conflicted. Whatev, I'm just hoping to be caught up by September.

The Dollhouse Blu-Ray saga seems to be at an end. I placed a new order tonight and quickly called my credit card to say "OMG LET IT GO THRU FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!!!!!" which they said it did. I got a confirmation e-mail and unless I get some sort of paniced phone call/email from Fox Store tomorrow, I'm going to assume that this story is over until my friend comes back from Comic Con.

Miralce "Mellie" Laurie will be in Baltimore on Saturday at Shore Leave...and I have to work. :( I wonder how many people will ask her about vases...

I found my old Pandora log-in, so I'm reviving that account so I can use the iPhone app, which everyone says is far superior to the last.fm app. I spent a good chunk of time tonight bookmarking my favorite artists of the moment.

My rl friends and I need to pick our Harry Potter theater. I can't believe the premiere is next week!!! I have a feeling we'll just end up at Arundel Mills or West Nursery because our favorite midnight theater, The Senator, is no longer a first run theater. So sad. It won't be the same. Still, we have to see it at MIDNIGHT! I don't care what kind of shape I am in on Wednesday, I will be running on Harry Potter fueled adreniline. I wasn't in love with OotP, but HBP is HBP - it is meant to be seen on the big screen!

Alright, time for bed. Gotta read the next chapter in THE STRAIN and see if the vampires show up...though since it is a trilogy, I'm starting to get a bit concerned I might have to wait until 2010 to see some serious vamp action...

watched the third episode of 'Supernatural' with dinner today.

- Agent Ford and Agent Hamill? heehee (and then the kid's name was 'Lucas'? Good to know the writers of this show are big dorks, gets them points from me)
- Amy Acker guest starred! Yay for Fred!

I'm excited because the next episode is 'Phantom Traveler' and I know someone on here listed that in their top episodes for season 1! So it will be good stuff, I'm sure. I'm already enjoying the show.

Also, has anyone seen the BBC Robin Hood series? I put it on my nextflix because...well I could, but I didn't know if anyone on here had watched it and had any comments if it was worth my time?
