Ugh, so sorry to hear that. We take a lot for granted in our system. I really wish there was a way to share the books we don't need anymore. We throw out so many books each week because we order 200 copies of the bestsellers to keep up with the local demand. :(
Do they do Inter-Library Loan services? They may charge a fee but still cheaper than buying the book.
