What's this Throwback Thursday business? Because I think I did that in my head today without realizing it. Listened to *lots* of early 90s Mariah Carey, which I don't think I've done since the actual early 90s. I still remember every single word to "Hero," and all the little vocal inflections she does when she sings it live.
Music is amazing, the way it can take you back to a specific time or place. I'm sorry your friend went through that, and after going to the adults they always tell you to go to. I remember vividly the first time I realized that grown-ups could be mean, or indifferent, or didn't have all the answers to the universe. It was harrowing.
I don't have a song connected to that memory though. There's nothing specific attached to Mariah Carey, not any one song, but I'm immediately ten years old again when I hear it. Just because it's been so long since I heard any of it. I was surprised by how well I still knew all those songs after all this time though.
