graphics makers - question

So, Tim upgraded his computer and gave me his old hard drive (which was newer than mine by a LOT). I'd been having issues with my Windows 10 install (because I didn't want to delete Photoshop because...um...it magically appeared on my computer 10 years ago) and we wanted to do a clean install. I remembered to back up almost everything...

...except my fonts! Whoops!

Not a huge deal, but I was working on icons and the list is so small now. And boring!

So, if you have any favorite fonts, please tell me them!!! I started browsing dafont.com and grabbed a few but that is a time sink for later. I thought I'd just ask the pros first. :)

dafont.com has loads (and I mean LOADS) of free fonts - it's where I get all mine.

EDIT: Oops ... too early for me ... I didn't notice that you already mentioned dafont. Haha ... sorry. I'd have to look at home for which fonts I use.

I can't choose one or a couple because I love everything that's calligraphy... I always go on http://www.dafont.com/ for fonts too...

When I browse around i end up getting so many... One of my favorites is Master Of Break... Also Metropolis it's pretty cool! Moon Flower, Always Forever, Hazel Grace... But when it comes to "normal fonts" i always go with century gothic

I remembered to back up almost everything......except my fonts! Whoops! When I got my new computer I remembered to back up everything except the PS patterns.

Here are a few of the fonts I love. I got most of them at dafont or fontfabric.

I've grouped similar fonts together, so if you don't want to download all of them you can pick the one you like best.

Airplanes in the night, daddy's girl, all things pink, angela, curlz mt, mickey, minney, cherri linney, hard rock, levi brush, brush tip terrence, crossstich, scripttina, shipped goods, snell roundhand, lucinda calligraphy, wolf in the city, franchise, intro

iSketchy Times is one of my favorite fonts. It's the font we use for Worldsmyth's graphics.

Um...I have the Star Wars fonts, Harry Potter font, Disney fonts...

I dunno, I don't really have any real favorite fonts besides those, 'cause I always choose depending on what I'm working on. Contrary Mary is another one, I guess.

I tend to stick to standard fonts myself (just because I haven't gottten into the habit of downloading fonts yet) but I agree they can be limiting, so I'll be watching the suggestions in the comments like a hawk :-)

I have lost all of my fonts before and it is so horrible!

I have a lot of favorite fonts. If you would like, I can zip up my fonts folder & upload it for you! I have a variety of fonts in there from pixels to scripts and in between.

I don't have any help on the font end of things, but if your Photoshop ever vanishes, Gimp isn't a bad replacement. It's not as good as PS, but for freeware it rocks. I almost never miss PS at all.

I taught myself PS years ago so I've been reluctant to go to GIMP. I actually put it on my work computer to play with but since I have PS, it's all good!

Yeah, that's how I started using it too, through work. Then one day I changed computers and couldn't get PS reinstalled, so just switched to Gimp at home, too. It turned out to be easier that way, using one in one place and the other in the other was messing up my memory of where things were and how to do them!

Yay! I didn't sort out the standard Windows fonts. I figured that you would just skip the duplicates. I hope you find something fun in there.

I also forgot that I have this great text guide that has fonts listed along with examples.

Enjoy! Text is what I find the hardest in terms of the main icon making techniques so tutorials help me a lot!
