Have any of you seen the Bob’s Burgers Christmas episode with Bob’s Dad and they the whole set up is that Bob can only spend 15 minutes around his Dad before he has to just walk away?

That is my existence at my in-laws.

At least I got to play the “Just drove here 13 hours so going to bed” card tonight but not sure what I will do tomorrow. They’ve already expressed their pro-wall stance and also that everyone should have a gun if they are on a plane.

Again I apologize for my whiny posts this week but it keeps me from getting into a pointless argument here.

God. Girl. I will be trying to send you strength through the internet. At least the members of my family who are right-wing agree not to talk about it at family gatherings. I can't imagine why the hell anyone would start in on it the second guests arrived at their house. That's what blows my mind. Like you JUST ARRIVED TODAY, what happened to the "What's been going on with your life, how does our grandchild like school, did you have a nice Christmas?" Like seriously, they have to jump straight into BUILD THAT WALL?

I recommend "going to bed early." I do that a lot at the in-laws' house, and I'm pretty sure they think I'm a sloth, but it does work. "I have the beginnings of a migraine," "I think I might have a scratchy throat, I should probably rest," or similar excuses also work.

Or hey! Do you have relatives that just need a call? Parents, siblings, friends going through an emergency or crisis...

LOL yeah, I've seen that episode. I definitely can't blame you for feeling like that. All people should have guns on planes?! Have they ever been on a long flight?! I can't even imagine the increased number of fatalities if everyone was armed on a plane. A lot of my in-laws have similar shitty opinions but, for the most part, they've been good about limiting the amount they talk about that stuff out loud, at least around me.

This is why I joke that I can never get married. I just want to marry the person, not their family, lol. My husband would just have to be okay with having an absentee wife whenever he goes home.
