Hmmmm... I'm afraid I'm at a loss for recommendations since I'm fairly sure you and I have very different tastes in music, for the most part. And, for movies... I'm still playing catch-up via NetFlix on all the ones I've missed last year. (It's kinda hard for us to get out to a movie with the little one around.)

i've been listening to the killers, jay z, something corporate, and the yeah yeah yeahs recently, among other things... i was in south beach this week for spring break and i listened to a lot of jay z on my ipod- good beach music :)

that's pretty funny, because right when you were posting that, my friend and I were discussing the deeper meaning of "Spirited Away". I actually just borrowed the DVD from a friend for a second viewing. and maybe some icon making. Miyazaki's stuff is so beautiful.

Yes, I remember that. What I didn't remember was that it was Tiny Toons, and not a proper video.

I only know the one Nick Cave song, and I know it from the Scream films, so yeah, it's creepy.

And you like the B-52's? I love that band sooooo much, but I can't seem to find anyone who doesn't give me a strange look whenever I mention that...

Tatu is a Russian teen pop duet who claim to be lesbians. Very energetic and sincere.

We just got Under Suspicion with Gene Hackman, Morgan Freeman, and Thomas Jane (hot!) Not a lot of action since it is mostly a psychological drama, but my jaw dropped when I saw the end.
The hubbie just bought the second Ghost in the Shell, along with what is currently out of its series (set before the films, I believe.) Another good anime series was Lain, which the hubbie labeled as 'modern sci-fi fantasy'. We also just got Sky captain, and Alien vs Predator.
If you're more into comedy, I laughed my tail off watching Without a paddle, which is surprising cuz I don't tend to find most comedies all that funny. (My favorite comedian is Eddie Izzard. If you like sarcastic humor, his stand-up routine Dress to Kill is a must-watch. Hope that helps! :)

Heh, TMBG has put out a CD for Playhouse Disney with little fun songs about the alphabet. (We particularly like the 'Go for G' one since that is the first letter of my toddler's name.) I really need to burn my songs from 'Flood' for him to listen to in the car. :)
So, are you into what used to be labeled as 'Alternative'? (I think it's mostly referred to 'Adult Modern Rock', or some-such.) I like quite a bit from that genre.

I love EDDIE! (I stole this icon from raelala) I have all of his US DVDs (I actually bought all of his stuff on tape when I went to england a few years back). I've seen him live three times now (two stand up shows and once on broadway doing "day in the death of joe egg"). He's my favorite executive transvestite.

They were quite big a couple of years ago. They performed at the MTV Movie Awards. A hundred teenage girls in school uniforms ran through the audience and stripped down to their underwear, while Tatu performed a medley of their songs. And that was the last anybody heard of them....

I like that. "What used to be labeled as 'alternative,'" as if it's become so mainstream, we look at it now and think, did we actually call this, "alternative," at one point? Why?

Because, at the time, heavy metal was the norm. Now, it's practically "oldies."

I'm a fan of 90's alt-rock. Local radio in Vancouver plays 90's songs in the noon hour, and it's a good show. I know all the words to, "Loser." ;-)

Yeah, I like many a band from that genre... The local station that used to play that type wold include such bands as Cure, Smiths, New order, Depeche, TMBG, Peter Murphy, but some people would label some of those as goth, or electronic, so it's hard for me to categorize. I wish I could just say, 'I like most of what KUKQ used to play,' and have everyone know just what I'm talking about. :)
I'm also into industrial, for lack of a better term, because there are even little sub-genres in that grouping. I've been known to like some pop, as well as some rap, or R&B, if I like the rhythms and/or samples. And, of course, Ms Tori Amos (and Sarah Mclachlan, for that matter.) :)
My little sister is trying to get me into the new little wave that has been hitting. So, I now have the Killers, Modest mouse, and Franz Ferdinand. I've enjoyed them thus far. :) Still have to listen to the Stella Star CD she burned for me.

Pretty much, I really enjoy the bands featured on the show 'The Alternative' on the VH1 Classics channel. Fun stuff! Cure, Siouxsie, Depeche, Dead Milkmen, New Order, Soup Dragons, Smiths, and so on. :D I'm also into industrial and electronic (and I don't mean techno.) :)
I do so miss our local Alternative station... it 'died' several years ago and got taken over by those that revel in Limp Bizkit, and the like. :(

I actually just checked "Modest Mouse" out from the library. Haven't listened to it yet though. Ordered the killers CD yesterday too. I have a couple Tori albums and everything by Sarah. I worked at a radio station for a year, so I feel so outta the loop right now not knowing whats out there. I worked at a station that sounds a lot like KUKQ. They played everything from REM's latest single, to a little guy who lived down the roads new song, and even some Beatles tracks. Great station. Stupid people running it though.

it's true though, I remember how cool I thought my mom was for listening to Cranberries, because they were so "edgy" at the time. Now, "alternative" is just another kind of pop music (like, Avril is now "alternative" and Britney is "pop"). The station that I listen to the most has deemed itself "progressive rock" so that's what I call my style of music, even though they play john mayer and dave matthews, they also play ben harper, jem, guster, beatles (post pepper) and some random guy who lives down the road.

I hear ya... I used to go clubbing like every weekend, and that's how I'd keep up with new releases. But for now, I just ask my little sis for ideas (she's pretty 'with it'), or I'll ask my buddy since he runs a 'goth' web radio site.

Another buddy just recommended Interpol to me. He compared them to Joy Division, but with a modern edge. (I think that's what he said.)
