orangerful: (incredibles phew // orangerful)
remember how I said I was going to do all this cool stuff on the ride up to Maine to stay occupied in the car? Design icons, write RotS fic, read books? Yes?

Well I didn't do any of it. [livejournal.com profile] zaubervz got a PSP for his birthday, along with Lumines. And that was that. I need a PSP and Lumines now. I don't even want any of the other "pretty" games out on PSP, I just want Lumines.

Anyway, the trip was a lot of fun, even if [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy wasn't with me. We left Sunday morning and mosied up the back roads through Pennsylvania. Stopped at the very bottom of Massachussetts in the Berkshires for the night. Next morning was went to Old Sturbridge Village, one of those living history places. My mom had very fond memories of it from her kid-hood, so she wanted to go back. It was pretty cool. We watched the blacksmith make some chain links (I was thinking how ridiculous it was, us staring at him, what a common place event it would have been back in the early 1800s, no one would have looked twice). We saw a musket firing demonstration too, which was very VERY loud. And it was just one guy! I can't even imagine the volume of an army. [livejournal.com profile] zaubervz and I found this really cool game called "Les Graces" and we played it for awhile and ended up buying one in the gift shop. Of course, on the package, the picture is of two girls in their very victorian dresses standing very close and tossing the hoops lightly to each other. But not [livejournal.com profile] zaubervz and me, nope, we played EXTREME LES GRACES!, tossing the hoops from ridiculous distances and leaping to snag them on our sticks.

Wednesday we went to Boston and did about 85% of the Freedom Trail, starting with a tour of the USS Constitution. Then we wandered through the city, checking out the North Church and the cemetaries of all the big revolutionaries. Boston has to be one of my favorite cities, because it has this great mix of history and modern-ness to it. I'm standing in a grave yard that has dates like 1776 on it, but at the same time, it's this hip town with lots of other stuff to keep you occupied.

Then we went the rest of the way up to Maine. Wednesday we just sort chilled, had a yummy Italian Sub at Amato's and saw a cover band play at the WestBrook park. Thursday was the Lobster bake, which was delicious. My friend Becky came along with my Uncle Jim, which means non-stop talking for us, since they are both Harry Potter fans and TV/Movie nuts like me. I ran away with Becky that evening too and we drove back to her apartment in Boston, got a pizza, and watched the first half of "Serenity".

Friday, we wandered all over Boston. We had breakfast and this great little coffee place in Allston (the name escapes me, Becky, what was it called?) It was awesome, we walked in and they knew Becky and it was like Cheers haha. We had this delicious french toast that was probably about 2 inches thick. And I had iced coffee, which I usually don't drink, but their coffee was really good. Something about Boston and Coffee. *shrugs*. We popped into a comic shop for a bit but I managed to resist buying anything. It was fun to browse though. Then we went to TOMB which was a whole lotta fun. Becky and I brainstormed about ways to improve upon it, but they have only been open 10 months, so we cut them some slack. If you are in the Boston area, check it out! We hit up a used CD store next, which was crammed full of cheap goodness. Bought [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy a copy of the Cary Brothers EP we've been looking for and I also topped off my Sting collection (Finally!) with 'Bring on the Night', his live album from back in the 80s. We walked down to the Cheers bar too, since [livejournal.com profile] zaubervz wanted a t-shirt. I ended up buying a pin and some glasses for myself and [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy, since that was the first place I ordered a drink after I turned 21. We took the world's cheapest Harbor Cruise, hopping on the commuter boat for $1.25 and sailing across to Charlestown. Then we went back to Becky's area, grabbed some Sushi (Becky "Want sushi?" Me "Heck yes!" Becky "Cool, here, you order. I don't eat raw fish" Me *confused for a good 40 minutes as I try to understand liking sushi but not raw fish*) then we went back to her apartment for the second half of "Serenity", "Train Job", Angel Season 2's Pylea arc, and the pilot of Arrested Development.

My folks picked me up at the T station on the way home yesterday, I got back to home sweet home around midnight, caught the final rerun of 'Six Feet Under', cried, stayed up too late reading e-mails, then slept. Alot.

Photos and more later.
