curse you, [livejournal.com profile] faeriesfolly!!! Why did I have to click through and sign up for [livejournal.com profile] truebloodrumble? Because you KNEW I would look at their user info page and what did I see?

How could I not sign up for a Buffy AND Angel rumble contest? But when I was adding that to my Friend's List, what else did I spy?

ACK!

Luckily, they are not all doing Challenge sign-ups at the same time, so its not so bad. But I think I'm gonna ditch a few of the other random icontest comms I have on my LJ otherwise my flist is going to be ALL icon challenges!

Today was busy, work was nuts due to SRP and then I drove down and hung out with my parents from 2-10. My dad loved his PS3. It was funny because before we did gifts he was talking about buying a blu-ray drive for his computer and debating whether it was worth it to get a cheap one or just buy a stand alone player...so the PS3 was perfect for him. We watched the first 30 minutes of The Fifth Element on blu-ray (which I realized I had never seen from the beginning...always started watching after Leela ended up at Corbin's apartment). It looked very pretty on his 1080p tv. Here's hoping he can handle watching movies and playing games when I'm not around!

So now I am going to pass out. zzzzzzzzzz.

  • Pride & Prejudice & Zombies finally came in for me today! Now I'm torn - do I try to finish Just a Geek at lunch or start P&P&Z?? #

One of my Facebook friends tagged me but my LJ posts got o Facebook, so I figured I'd do it here:

This can be a quick one. Don't take too long to think about it. Fifteen books you've read that will always stick with you. First fifteen you can recall in no more than 15 minutes. Tag 15 friends, including me because I'm interested in seeing what books my friends choose...

The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams - one of the books that got me back into reading. Picked this up in 8th grade after my mom made some joke about "42"

The Book Thief by Markus Zusak - I don't think I've ever cried at the end of a book before the way I did when I finished that one. So beautiful, I can't even describe it...

Uglies/Pretties/Specials by Scott Westerfeld - it's all his fault that I got into YA books as much as I did. I had stereotyped them as all angst and sex, but this series is so fun and it makes you think!

Blankets by Craig Thompson - one of the most beautiful graphic novels I've ever read, it really made me think about the format and all the different ways it could be used

The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson - the book that reminded me that non-fiction can be an enjoyable read, plus you can learn random facts about serial murderers and World's Fairs!

A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore - I had given up on adult authors being able to write the kind of humor that spoke to me, but Moore nailed it and I love this book because it makes me LOL!

Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton - another book/author that got me reading again after a lull. I remember my mom convinced me to read this before the movie came out and I became a Crichton fan for life. JP is probably my favorite though.

Jaws by Peter Benchly - this one stays with me because I absolutely HATED IT! Anyone that knows me knows that anytime I'm talking about reading the book because 99% of the time, it's better than the movie, knows that the 1% I am speaking of is Jaws...stupid crappy book...where the frak was the shark??? Oh don't get me started....

Blueberries for Sal by Robert McCloskey - my mom really likes this book, she read it to me a lot.

Book Book Book by Deborah Bruss - I read this book at one of my first school visits, and I remember one class got really into it and made all the animal sounds with me even though I didn't ask. It was so cool. Made me feel all special.

Why Buffy Matters by Rhonda Wilcox - one of the first academic Buffy books I read, I loved how Wilcox compared BtVS to Charles Dickens' stories, saying that the adults at the time said novels would rot children's brains and they should go outside and play. Joss Whedon's series is art and I love that a book like this helps give me the language to discuss it that way.

The Stranger by Albert Camus - Even though I'm sure it went over my head the first time I read it, I remember loving this book when I had to read it in high school...I don't know why...I've read it again since and something about it just fascinates me...apparently I have existentialist leanings?

I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak - I had to read this for my first trip to Great Books...and I loved it. It spoke to me in a way that no book had before and it was from the YA area (SHOCKING!) which I had ignored since 6th grade...I bought it...I had not actually purchased a book in years and I ran out and bought this one and then bought Book Thief without even reading it. I hardly ever do that now.

King Dork by Frank Portman - for it's relentless mocking of Catcher in the Rye, a book I LOATHE (and why I prefer to be a public librarian rather than a school one - I can roll my eyes when kids have to read it hahahhaha)

Elephant & Piggie series by Mo Willems - because they never fail to make me giggle uncontrollabley when I read them. Cutest. Books. EVAR!

And I'm not tagging anyone, but feel free to do this if you want! :)
