The rush of the falls blocked out all other sounds. If it had been music or the sound of cars on the street, Tina would have covered her ears and gone inside. But something about the noise of the water crashing against the rocks, then tumbling into the river below was different, almost refreshing, as if the roar was cleansing her senses in some way.
She felt fingers touching hers and knew Reggie was next to her. She looked over at him and watched his face as he took in the sight of the waterfall. Her New York City boy, living all these years just hours away from Niagara Falls but never thinking to visit. It had taken a bit of persuading to convince him this trip would be worthwhile, but she could tell from the way his eyes took in the view it had been worth it. This moment would stay in his mind forever, and she would cherish the fact that she had been a part of it, she had brought him here.
He must have seen her watching out of the corner of his eye, and he turned to look at her. Their eyes met and he said something, but the sound was buried by the falls. Tina cocked her head to the side to show that she didn't hear him, even though she could guess the words that had come from his mouth. He leaned a little closer and tried again. She gave him a crooked smile and shook her head yet again, feigned confusion on her face. He sighed, leaned in a bit more and before he could start, she kissed him and said everything to him that he wanted to hear.
