I usually just check everything outta the library, which is why so many are on the floor. I only buy stuff I've either read or needs to be part of one of my collections (though I've read all the jossverse books I've bought). I love critical essays on pop-culture books, if you couldn't tell. :-)



EDIT - I thought of of a book I reccomend to my flist while driving in today! One that I bought for my friends after I read it, and now feel the need to read it again, or at least bits of it as it's a book of essays - Partly Cloudy Patriot by Sarah Vowell!!! She roxors my soxors, I just ordered her newest book from the library which reminded me how much I loved her other 3. Plus, bonus points, she was the voice of Violet in Incredibles! How sweet is that?

Bruce Campbell has another book out? I haven't even read his other one, yet. o_O

Heh, the only Crichton book I've read was Jurassic Park, and it scared me silly. o_O *laughs*

yeah, Bruce Campbell's new book is a "novel", in the loosest since. He uses all real names but I'm pretty sure he made it all up haha. It's ridiculous, if you see it in the bookstore, just open it up and look at the size of the print! It's HUGE!!

I have a soft spot for Michael Crichton's stuff, he's my guilty pleasure read. He's horrible at characterization but he always has such great action/adventure/thriller stuff. Timeline was really good, the movie did not do it justice.

My Daddy enjoys Crichton, and I remember that he said he liked that book, too, and was worried when all the reviews for the film came back so negative. I don't think he actually saw it, though. For a few years, he'd keep bringing up Eaters of the Dead, I believe it to be called. o_O

I need to get a more scholarly icon of Wesley... :D

ah yes, Eaters of the Dead became the Antonia Banderas movie The 13th Warrior. That's one of the few I've never read because it's written like a weird diary. But the movie is actually a lot of fun. THe whole premise is "What if Beowolf actually happened?". ANd not like, with real magic and stuff, but what if there were, like, left over cavemen that the norse guys ran into on their expeditions...it's a neat movie. Our favorite part is when Antonio's character learns to speak the vikings language haha.

pfffft, scholarly wesley icons are over-rated! TA-DA!

I saw that film after my Daddy told me what it was based on. :) Well, that, and because Antonio was in it. *drools* My Dad told me what the book was about, but never mentioned what style it was written in. Sounds kinda intriguing... :) I actually enjoyed the film a lot... they made fun of is little Arabian, and (s)he showed them in how high (s)he could jump. *laughs* I loved Antonio's character in it. Hey, did you know that one of the Vikings played the Beast (I think that was his name) in Angel? :D

Heh, yeah, but I need someone scholarly for an icon. *laughs* Perhaps a Fredikins is in order for the rare time I post anything book-smart. ;P

I used to have, like, 3 copies of the book because every time the library would get ready to toss one out or get a donation they didn't want, i'd snag it so I could pass it on to a friend. I haven't read it in ages though, but I blame/credit it with getting me back into reading Non-Fiction.

Heh, six degrees of Joss, you say? How about, you know me, and my sister dated the nephew of Richard Riehle, who was the man (Watcher?) who told Buffy on the TV show that she was the new slayer. (Google him, and you'll know who he was... he was in everything.) With that connection, I can get you to Joss in 5. :D

oh yes. He started out just saying he was a buffy fan so we used to talk about buffy and angel all the time. Then after I graduated, he told me that he knew Joss in college and he actually had a photo of the two of them at some party. He talked to me about people they went to school with and how they resembled characters on Buffy...so very interesting.

they pretty much were those characters. Just ways of acting or speaking. My memories a bit fuzzy now haha. But it sounds like they knew a Willow-type. And she sounds like she was every bit as adorable as Aly. haha.

I really should read the Joss biography I own and see if it mentions these things...
