busy busy weekend
Sep. 24th, 2006 10:42 pmWell, it's been non-stop since Thursday.
jimithingy's friend Brian was in town, hadn't seen him in something like 4 years. He was on his way to a Dave Matthews Band concert in VA, and he lives in NJ, so we were the perfect halfway point! We took him to see the sights of Glen Burnie (Arundel Mills) and then him and AD jammed on their guitars and sat up all night talking.
Then Friday we hung out with
blu_harvest and
simontrueheart - had yummy sushi, then watched 'Nightwatch' and played some Star Wars Lego II! I must have that game! So cute!!! We played the ESB level and I got to ride on a cute little lego Tauntauns!
'Nightwatch' was very interesting. Made me want to read the book even more. According to
blu_harvest, the movie is actually only the first section of the book. We watched it with subtitles, and the subtitles were very stylized, which I couldn't decide if I liked or not. I felt it was kind of distracting at times. There was a lot going on in that movie, so trying to keep track of the wandering subtitles was hard to do. I want to read the book to see if they lay out the rules for light and dark a bit clearer.
Apparently 'Nightwatch' came out in 2004, 'Daywatch' in 2006, and they are currently working on the 3rd one ('afternoon watch??? they're out of options...) I found the trailer for 'Daywatch' online but it's still in russian. Looking at Amazon, I'm realizing the 'Day Watch' dvd we saw in Boston must have been a bootleg...interesting....
I have to say, Russian just blows my mind. French and Spanish I can sorta read. Japanese letters I have no clue, but they look more like drawings and symbols and my brain doesn't attempt to figure them out. But Russian letters look like maybe you're just holding the page sideways and if you could only turn it a little you'd be able to read it. It's kind of unnerving haha.
Oh, yes and then SATURDAY we went to RenFest with
blu_harvest,
zaubervz, and
dstntp1lgr1m! I managed to get a little bit sunburnt in my pirate top, but it was all good. Had my annual Turkey Leg, which was delicious. We watched the human chess match and then just wandered for many hours.
dstntp1lgr1m and I bought some horns to wear on halloween. He also got a really cool red devil mask which I'm sure he'll post pictures of (and if not, I will as soon as I upload my photos). I got myself some new earrings at my favorite store there then managed to resist any other impulse buys (that's good for me! you have no idea). All in all a very fun weekend but very VERY busy. I probably won't recover until next weekend....
Tomorrow I'm only working half a day because I have a doctor's appointment. Blah. New doctor too. Not really looking forward to the appointment part, but getting out of work early will be nice hehe. I need to figure out a craft for Wednesday's storytime!! It's my last one for the month and I'm so out of ideas! I think we might make stuff out of paper plates since I still have a lot left over from the first craft. Possibly masks....
