So, these past few weeks I've slipped into fangirl mode with a few patrons and I'm never sure if that's a good thing. I do it so naturally, and they're either amused by it (kids) or somewhat startled (adults).

We have our Star Wars program at the end of this month, and I have posters and fliers up so any time I see a kid looking at the poster or picking up a flier, I usually head over and start talking it up. If they respond with any star wars knowledge at all, then the fangirl usually kicks in.

I try to hold back, I really do. But when someone says "that green guy that tries to shoot Han and then he shoots him" how can I let such a lie exist? I had to correct the child!

The fact that he was looking at the sci-fi paperbacks, asking about a clone wars novel and I knew from where he was standing that he was looking for Republic Commandos: Triple Zero - he should have known what he was getting himself into.

Also last week one of our pages read a graphic novel during her lunch break. She had volume whatever of 'Powers' by Brian Michael Bendis (for some odd reason ths system only owns one volume and it's like 12?) and I started babbling about Bendis and his work on Daredevil and his 'Alias' series. Then I went into BKV fangirl mode, telling her to check out 'Runaways' next and maybe 'Y The Last Man'. I think she ended up fleeing the room.

And I had an adult patron pick up 'Strangers in Paradise' off of my graphic novel display that I have up at the moment, and I found him in the stacks and just had a quick moment of "OMGSOGOOD" while I helped him find our graphic novel section. I was happy to see that even after my "when fangirls attack" moment, he still checked out the book.

Hm, I need some sort of spazzy fangirling icon for posts such as this...*plots*

I was at Nightshift (our homeless outreach) tonight, looking at the blankets someone had donated, and one of them...

...wait for it...

Vintage Empire Strikes Back duvet!

I so took it. I'll replace it with another blanket, don't worry.

Problem is, it needs a lot of mending. A lot.

But *spaz* it's vintage!

Yeah, I've been trying very hard to restrain myself with the Harry Potter stuff at work so I don't come across like the complete freak you know I am. Our new area info job-share is the one that wants to do a "What's going to happen in book 7?" discussion/program for older kids and adults here at CRO, and she wanted a helper for the program. Due to my geek street cred, I got nominated and of course accepted. She made the mistake of asking me some of my thoughts about what would happen in the last book yesterday, and I really hope I didn't scare her. ^_^;

ooh yes, you should do my evaluation! That sounds much better than "total fangirl spaz"

they are always a little bit scared...but at the same time, they are amazed! haha. Plus, if you're hosting an HP discussion, they need someone like you who's very familiar with the story and the fandom. SAY IT LOUD AND PROUD!

btw - did you get my email about Saturday?

Man, all I need is one piece of Star Wars bedding, and I'll have some of each...

...not including Episode 1 stuff, which I decided not to buy when it was new, because it all sucked, anyways. Podracing? Come on! Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan vs. Darth Maul, maybe...

*giggles* I know your pain, lady. I recommended Serenity to a co-worker, and I guess he went out and rented it at lunch the next day. When he came to show me the DVD, I almost went all spastic, telling him bits of info that he may need to know, assuring him that River is not just a pretty face, etc. And I think I even bounced a little. Mind you, this was in the middle of our office floor. o_O

well, the comic girl was actually crazy enough to come BACK to the info desk this week to ask for more comics, and in the end, I ended up ordering the 'Serenity' DVD for her. Gotta spread the Jossy goodness!

That's good. :) Heh, that's better than my attempt on selling the fandom. My co-worker watched the film and enjoyed it, but merely jotted down the name "Firefly" as a potential future DVD rental option. o_O
