Something I noticed while showing my co-worker, Amy, the British Harry Potter cover:

Amazon.co.uk has an ENTIRE section of it's site dedicated to Harry Potter. And this isn't some hidden away corner you can only find when searching for an HP title, nope - it's one of the MAIN choices listed across the top menu bar.

Also, it appears that the Brits have "adult" versions of HP. Not that they have naughty bits, but just that the jackets have been redesigned to resemble a "normal" adult fiction book. You know the type, boring front cover, nice photo of the author on the back.

I guess it would just be too embarrassing to be seen with the brightly colored children's versions. Or the Super Special Edition (who the frak designed that one???)

Also - in case you were wondering - my library system already has 325 holds on 'Deathly Hallows'. I can't imagine how many copies we'll be getting. It shall be insane. I mean, for a normal book, for every 7 holds, we would order another copy. But this is far from a normal book - it's an event.

I came for the icons, but want to stay for the geekery of your journal :). I love your layout and we have a fair few fandoms in common (I so need more fellow Star Wars original trilogy lovers on my flist!). So have a look at my userinfo and see if mutual adding would be savvy :).

That Bloomsbury cover looks ghastly! They want me to buy THAT to make a matching set? For the first time ever, they make me want to buy an American edition!

That looks like it belongs in a MAD magazine article.

Plus, I'd love a matching set of Adult editions. Those are snappy.

*points and grins* YOU SAID FRAK! YOU SAID FRAK!!

Hee hee, welcome to the fold.

(Seriously though, what UP with that Special Edition cover?? I'm not even sure why, but it makes me think of The Little Prince for some reason.)

It reminds me of The Little Prince, too. I think it's all the stars.

Well you know how the British are.. all business, all the time. They have their reputations of being notoriously stuffy on the line. (HA!)

And WOW... 325 holds? By the time the last person gets to check it out, they'll be able to buy it in paperback for less than $10.

wow- the Scholastic cover is definitely better this time around (altho I've liked the last 2 American covers as well). I'm a little confused with this special edition. Is that really the cover, or is that just a hold until they reveal the real cover?

haha glad to have you! We have so much in common! I mean, you understand the power of Joss and so do I. You respect the OT, and of course I do! And you're from Australia and I went there once for 18 days and left a bit of my soul there (and I swear one day I will return to retrieve it!!!)

Friended :)

oh you should have seen us in the grocery store yesterday doing our Col Tigh impersonations while shopping. And then discussing how [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy wanted to get Apollo's "Rescue Camo Outfit" and I wanted Starbuck's outfit. We are quite silly for the BSG.

But now that you mention it, I need the obligatory BSG-Fan-Must-Have-Icon-That-Says-Frak icon...I'll add it to my to-do list.

(I hope [livejournal.com profile] beckanon is right and it's just a place holder until the real cover is revealed...otherwise someone is on crack)

they look nice from the side. [livejournal.com profile] faeriesfolly and I decided last night thaty the front cover, especially of Deathly Hallows, looks like a gothic romance novel.

Oh lord, we are going to buy SO many copies of HP it's not even funny. The materials department's goal is for no one to have to wait longer than 6 weeks - har har har. I hope they just come in on time! Last time, when HBP came out, the company we ordered from got in trouble with scholastic, so they didn't send the books out in time and everything at headquarters had to come to a stop so the book could be covered and added and sent to branches on time.

Yeah, the artwork on the british edition is just...odd.

I'm not sure what is up with the special edition but I think you're probably right. They probably have a very nice cover planned but not released yet. Maybe it's spoilery?
