So...I bought a laptop. Actually, I bought a MacBook Pro.

Here is the logic - I figure I needed a laptop now that I'm starting my Masters. The idea is that I can take it with me to work and do any homework on that laptop. Also, if any of my classes are scheduled during the workday, I figure it would be better to log in on my own computer. That way if anything needs to be saved or downloaded, I won't get all the lovely "administrator only" notices that pop up on our public and staff room PCs. Also, since we're a community branch, we only have 2 backroom computers and I didn't want to monopolize either of those or worry about kicking someone else off the computer because I needed to get to something. Plus, knowing me, if I did school work on the library computer, I would save it there and forget it and them it would be due the next day...oh you know it would be.

So, I wanted a laptop. [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy said that the only laptop worth buying was a MacBook. The weekend before I got to see my friend Andrew's MacBook and it was really nice. Apple.com has a great deal for students - $200 off the MacBook Pro if you are a student. Just so happens there was also a free iPod deal going on as well. AND $100 off select printers. I showed the specs for the Pro to my Mac addict from, StarWarsDaddy, and he gave it the thumbs up.

We went to the mall today to check out the Apple store. StarWarsDaddy recommended looking at them to make sure I liked the keyboard, the screen (glossy or matte) etc.. I did. I liked it a lot. But the stores were all sold out of MacBook Pros! (at least, the cheapest of the 3, the one I wanted). So I came home and went online, ordered myself the MacBook Pro, a Video iPod (which will only cost me $50 once I send in the rebate, a Nano would have been free but I have one of those already) and an all-in-one printer for $80 (after rebate, could have gotten that for nothing too but again, this was a much better printer than the "free" ones). The iPod and Printer will probably ship out next week, but the MacBook won't ship for 7-10 business days. Bah! I want it now!

Did I mention the MacBook Pro has a DVD player/burner? :D Yes...yes it does. So I should have it before we go to Bermuda which means free in-flight movie! Plus, I think the hotel we are staying at has free Wi-Fi...so if I start to get twitchy and need internet access, I can get my fix haha. And once I get home, I can learn how to make more crappy fanvids!

So, the whole thing set me back a pretty penny. But I think it will be worth it. [livejournal.com profile] jimithingy predicts that my PC will start collecting dust. He also said he's pondering going wireless! Sweet.

Tomorrow, I need to call the hotels in Philadelphia and try to book a room for the wedding we are going to right after we get back from Bermuda. We have to book by Sept 5th, so I really can't put it off. My credit card bills will be very chunky this month. :\

Okay, so, after Bermuda, I'm not spending ANY MONEY until Christmas!!!!! Because I won't have any money.

do you want to see the price before or after the rebates go through? because before the rebates, it's not as impressive. haha.

Before rebates - $2227.95( + $111.40 tax)

Subtract $199 for the iPod, and $100 for the Printer: $1928.95 (+tax)

so...$2040.35 (that's for a MacBook Pro, iPod Video, and All-in-One Printer/Scanner/Copier)

If I had behaved myself, it would only have been the $1799 + tax because a Nano and some of the other printer models would have ended up cancelling out after the rebate.

Stupid tax!!!! It screws up everything...BUT shipping was totally free!

lol, just requires a bit of restraint. save save save! Then, by the time you're my age, you can afford one ;) I have a nice bit of padding in my bank account (or I guess I should use the past tense on that now, I did have some padding in my account. haha.

Ha! I can't believe that you actually did it. I am soo jealous, not of the bill but of the purchase. I am going to get my hair cut in ~30 minutes, I have worked up enough courage to do it I just need to get out the door now.

Dude, Mac Book Pros are so powerful that NIN uses three of them simultaneously on stage to control and manipulate not only all sounds, but also all visuals and is able to improvise everything completely from beginning to end by using them.

Trent Reznor HIGHLY approves of the Mac Book Pro.

I also think, that, like me, you have a laptop far more advanced than what we really need it for (my Acer is the same way, lol), yet it still feels very nice to have a top quality machine of our very own.

LOL, well if Trent approves. ;)

Yeah, my Mac will be so powerful and I will be such a n00b. But it will be fun to use and I'm hoping I can goof with all the video editing stuff.

...plus, part of me wants to watch the Mac Fanboys I know drool.

Oooh I want to see your haircut! I hope it is supercool. I think I might go Wednesday and get this mop chopped off.

Now I have to count the days until the gorram thing actually ships from Mac HQ...I hope it comes faster than they say, I want it now!!!!!

Yeah, I'm a bit of a gadget-a-holic. I have technojoy, and a laptop was one of the few things I did not own. And I haven't had a Mac since I was little (Apple IIe!) so this just helps to complete my collection of electronic stuff. ;)
