I'll have to go read the 'Paradise Lost' wiki article after I finish the book. The thing that I am enjoying at the story so far is that nothing it totally blatant or mean. It's more of a "yeah, this isn't working but" vibe. Now, that might be because I'm only halfway through, but the fact that it's not just bashing the church, religion, or god for however many pages makes it readable and still interesting.
And, irony of ironies, would this book be as enjoyable if you had no knowledge of christianity? I'll have to wait until I'm finished before such questions can be asked.
