I've just come to the conclusion that, while I am familiar with Bob Dylan and some of his music and history, I do not know enough about his life to fully appreciate I'm Not There. Its a very cool idea and all, having the different actors represent different aspects of Dylan's personality and parts of his career but I felt lost a lot of the time. Made me want to read a Dylan biography so I could figure out who everyone was representing (I know Julianne Moore was Joan Baez and the French girl is the girl from the cover of Freewheelin' but that is about it.) Perhaps I should have watched it with the commentary first.

I will say that Christian Bale's and Cate Blanchett's Dylan portrayals were spot on, so far as being Dylan in their mannerisms and such. I also got a little depressed seeing Heath Ledger on screen. :(

I should get to bed, I've spent the last hour playing with my iPod, making a new "Top Down" mix for my car and updating my Rock Band mix.

I haven't seen it, but my mother said about the same thing, as far as not knowing enough to understand what was going on. And my dad just plain hated it, but he hates anything that is more complicated than a James Bond movie.

You know, I really like Bob Dylan, but could not for the life of me get into that movie. One of my friends that watched it mentioned that it might have been better if they had taken the 6 different people and done them as shorts, which I hadn't thought of but definitely agreed with. I think that once they threw them all together, it was too hard to follow. Anyway, I enjoyed each of the different portrayals of Dylan, but it was really hard for me to get into, because the whole thing seemed a little too random. Kind of a let down for me, because it was one that I was really looking forward to.

Also, slightly off topic, did you ever end up seeing Into The Wild?

Actually, I think I was hoping it would be the movie you described to. Can we call all the actors and get them together again to shoot that movie?

Everything I know about Dylan I learned from Beatles biographies, so my info is a bit choppy. But I think a LINEAR movie might have helped. Especially if they were going to be artsy in other areas. I don't think the rest of it would have been so confusing if they had just moved from point A to point B (but maybe Dylan believes his life did not happen in order...?)

And I did watch 'Into the Wild'. I think I posted about it...I will find the link when I get home (shh illegal 8:30 blogging). I liked it a lot but I doubt I could watch it again. Too sad.

James Bond movies can be pretty durn complicated! Sometimes to much (i.e. The World is Not Enough [unless you have 5000 lame plot twists])

Yeah, unless you're a Dylan scholar, I think you miss a lot in this movie.

LOL, you even responded to my post about the movie. I guess I never posted about reading the book. I enjoyed the book and there was so much more to it than the McCandless story...I think they should just come packaged together.
