latest scam?
Jun. 29th, 2008 04:31 pmSo, I've been asked THREE times this past weekend for cash from random people. First was on Thursday, when I was filling up my car at the gas station behind my house. Guy walked up and gave me this big story about how he forgot his wallet at home ("Its attached to a chain and I grabbed my regular chain but it was on the dress chain"). Anyway, I give him $4 to at least get a gallon in his car. Figured I could earn some karma before my road trip on Friday.
Then, Saturday after we got out of the wedding up in Lehigh, these two guys come up to us while we're on the campus. The one guy is acting like he's almost in tears, talking about how they have no gas they are not from around here and he can't get a hold of his bank on his cell phone blah blah blah. I figure, fine whatever it is all plausible and Lehigh is a crap place to be stranded in June. So I give him $5. Whatever. More karma for me, yes?
TODAY on the drive home, ANOTHER couple approached us at one of the rest stops. My karma, and my wallet, were so over this. So I told them no, I'm sorry, I need my cash for tolls. They seemed genuine, the girl seemed to be in tears and the guys story about screwing up his PIN number and getting locked out of his account seemed plausible, but then again, I might have SUCKER written on my forehead.
Anyway, has anyone else had similar experiences recently? Or is it that I haven't done many roadtrips in the summer so I haven't run in to these people as much?
