I stopped watching after the Butt-Genie episode (it's just as bad as it sounds - a midget with no legs who would hide in people's butts...). That episode was too much. I remember trying to watch the finale and being totally confused by wtf was going on (which is why I suffered through the last two seasons of LOST because I wanted to avoid that issue again).
Buffy had some problem episodes, but it never reached the level of *headdesk* that X Files did.
