Right so after learning from my mistakes from Day 1, I was sure to fill up my water bottle and shove some snack bars into my backpack before heading into the madness.

I opted not to fight my way into the Big Bang Theory panel because that would have meant sitting in the same room for about 5 hours and I just didn't want to lose the whole day. Friday is "Star Wars Day" at Comic-Con, and even though I didn't have anything Star Wars related on my agenda, I showed my fangirl pride and put on my brand new Her Universe shirt. OMG SO COMFY! And, of course, I pulled out my Yoda backpack. And since I wasn't rushing off to get in line for anything, I went down to the breakfast buffet and had something to eat. The waitress was very nice since I was all on my own (well, unless you count Yoda). I noticed a guy sitting behind me, also on his own and he looked really familiar. After I was done eating, I got a better glance at him and realized it was one of [livejournal.com profile] andy_wolverton's favorite authors, China Mieville. So random.

I went to the exhibit hall to hit up some of the freebies and exclusives I wanted before the full-on crazy hit. I snagged the Star Wars pin from Hallmark, a Dark Horse bag (which I tossed my water bottle into so I could have easy access to it). I hit up the NECA booth and got the SDCC exclusive figure - a Bioshock 2 figure (spoilery figure too...ah well, that's what I get for not beating that game). Also pre-ordered Dollhouse Season 2 on blu-ray so I could get the limited edition poster (which turned out to be NOT so limited I found out later on...but whatever, that's FOX for ya!). I checked the raffle board at Dark Horse but my number was not up for getting Joss' autograph that afternoon. So I asked for a ticket for Saturday's Dollhouse signing. I wandered through the books and authors area and saw Mr Mieville again, this time on his phone so I didn't bother him for an autograph. As I wandered through the booths, I overheard a young man talking with someone behind the desk, asking if they needed him for anything. I glanced over and saw a stack of Eragon books on the table and realized this kid was Christopher Paolini. I walked over and said "Excuse me, I'm a librarian and I have TONS of boys asking me when the next book in your series is coming out and I can't find anything on it - just tell me, are you even writing another one??" He laughed and said to tell all the kids he says "hi" and that he IS writing another one and this dragon will be GREEN! Oooh, spoilers?

It was at this point that I looked at my watch and figured I better get my butt upstairs in line for The Walking Dead panel. It wasn't supposed to start until 11:30 and I had an hour to spare - turns out that wasn't enough. I got up there, stood in the insanely long line, only to be THE person they cut the line off in front of. So depressing. I could see everyone else in the room having a good time, and the rest of us were sitting outside. I stood there for about 10 minutes but once they ran the trailer for the series, I gave up. I decided that I better just go stand in line for the Joss Whedon Experience panel at 3pm. This was at noon. The line for Ballroom 20 was insane (I didn't realize that AFTER Joss was the True Blood panel...damn fangbangers were taking up my space!). I waited and waited, inching forward for 3 hours. Suddenly, it was 3pm and I was not inside. I was really upset, what a waste of time. But they kept letting people in during the talk and eventually around 3:20, I was in the Ballroom watching Joss talk.

It was mostly a Q&A session. But it reminded me of why I love Joss. There were no "Get a Life!" moments here because Joss loves his shows and any questions people put to him (and I think most Whedonverse fans are pretty smart) he gave a very respectful answer. Here are some of the quotes I jotted down:

A fan asks about the finale of Angel and Drogan's fate. Joss can't quite make it out so the moderator repeats it but says "Dragon". Joss says "It's Drogan - the guy who lives in a tree and always tells the truth"
Audience: chuckles
Joss: What? I don't make this stuff up...oh wait...

Someone else asked about his writing process which he summed up as an infinite loop of Fun, Hunger, Porn, Depression, Fun

Another question came up about killing off beloved characters and he said "sometimes it serves the story and other times Ron Glass makes me REALLY MAD!" Someone in the audience yelled out "TOO SOON"

When asked what inspired Doctor Horrible, Joss said he wanted to make Doctor Horrible because he feels like Doctor Horrible. Villains are more fun.

The final question posed to Joss was something like "You cast a lot of the same actors in your shows, some might even say you play favorites - do you have a favorite actor?" Joss chuckled and said "Now, if I picked a favorite, I could get into a lot of trouble...but that's Nathan Fillion". The crowd goes wild with screams and cheers but Joss waves it off. "NO!" he says, pointing "THAT'S Nathan Fillion!" The camera cuts to the audience member who is wearing a hat, sunglasses and a mustache and is standing a bit hunched over beneath a trench coat. After Joss points at him, he peels off the 'stache and hat and it's clearly Nathan. Joss makes some comment about his aura of neediness that gave him away. Too funny, great way to end the panel.

I went back into the exhibit hall for a bit and wandered past the Official Pix booth. There was a really pretty girl sitting at the booth and she seemed SO familiar. I leaned over a bit and spotted pictures of Glory and realized it was Clare Kramer! I told her she looked a lot better without the crazy hair and Glory make-up. I figured I would snag an autograph while I was there and she was sweet enough to pose for a photo.

I went back to the NECA booth and snapped photos of their upcoming line of Hunger Games merchandise. Oh yes, it will be mine.

I remembered that I promised [livejournal.com profile] andy_wolverton I would stop by the booth of his favorite fantasy artist, John Picacio. I asked him if he had any of the prints available of the two pieces that Andy mentioned to me. He said they were only available in his book and he was sold out. I said "oh" and then he went "well, hang on" and he reached under the table and pulled out a copy of the book. He said he was saving it for a friend but he could just mail him a copy and he'd rather give this book to [livejournal.com profile] andy_wolverton (he actually recognized his name from a previous encounter!). He was very sweet and his friend, an editor from BAEN books, made us pose for a picture together.

I got back to the hotel room and drop off my swag bag. Jeff texts me that they are meeting up for dinner with some of the DCSWCC members that now live in San Diego. I tell him I'm going to try to get into the Rifftrax Live panel but I will meet up afterwards. I scarf down a pretzel dog (yeah, just as healthy as it sounds) and find the Rifftrax line. And wait. It's really long but we figured that we are an hour early so how many people could there be? Waiting...chatting with fellow fans. Explaining to guy what Rifftrax is and convince him to go home and buy at least one of the movie ones. Waiting...uh oh, here comes a volunteer. "RIFFTRAX IS FULL!"

Frak.

Ah well, at least I get to have a decent dinner. I find my friends and have some yummy nachos. On the way back we stop by Borders and it's funny to see how even the stores have been taken over by SDCC madness. We also passed Flynn's Arcade, where the Tron party was going on. The line for the movie theater is really long too. But I'm still on East Coast time, so I am happy to go back to the hotel and pass out yet again. Before my head hits the pillow, I work out my Saturday plan. I have WAY too many things I want to happen and I'm not missing them - first and foremost the Community cast autograph session.

XD Too funny.

Oh Nathan. XD So adorable. haha.

GLORY!!! She really is super pretty when she's not a crazed goddess. heehee.

SWEET! Hunger Games stuff!

Lame about not getting into stuff, but dang do you have some great random encounters! haha. I am almost dreading trying to get 2-3 boys on board for whatever schedule of panels I decide I have to be at for D*C. I will leave them if I have to (and this year will be rocking comfy shoes the entire time, dammit!), but since they are paying for the hotel.... lol. Oh and they are my ride home... XD
