Guy Fawkes Bonfire

destertale told me about this gathering that has been happening for over 25 years in Linthicum hosted by a very eccentric gentleman.
The night started out with a torchlight procession. Yes, I got to hold a giant, flaming torch. A bit of excitement when I tried to put out my torch and some of the moss on the wood caught fire! But the hose was nearby so no harm done.
Then we did some Guy Fawkes chants as LOUDLY as we could.
Next up, the turkey, which had been buried in the ground with some hot coals earlier in the day was exhumed. I was told it was a 40+ lbs bird and it looked it!
We wandered inside to eat the food and check out the house. It was covered in stuff, especially the living room which had frame after frame of Guy Fawkes photos and memorabilia.
Next, the Fig Pudding was set on fire and we "BEHELD THE PUDDING!" and then ate it too. Quite delicious, though clearly some sort of alcohol was used in the dessert and it's sauce. Had a bit of a kick to it.
Last but not least, a giant wooden sculpture was set ablaze! And then the crazy people threw fireworks into that blaze!
All in all, a really fun time. I'd like to go next year, now that I know what to expect, and bring a few more friends. I wasn't sure how weird it would get so I just drank soda and sorta pecked at the food since I hadn't brought anything to contribute. But next year, I will bring an offering for the madness and help myself to the free beer. :)
