Just posted on Read.
Watch. Blog. about the 20th Anniversary of X-Files
. Probably posted
similar things here before but I'll be damned if I could find the links!!!

Anyone else here grow up with the X-Files fandom? It really was the most
immersed I have ever been in a fandom. I mean, I wrote fanfic, wrote filk,
posted to message boards EVERY WEEK. There was nothing like it. It's
amazing that I never stumbled into more mature content online, but I have
no memory of anything beyond a PG rating.

Still can't bring myself to rewatch the show...too many feels and I'm so
worried that it won't age well.

I remember that when I was a very young kid in Poland, X-Files was at the top and everyone older than me was watching it. But I missed out, probably because it aired during a time in my life when I was young and my parents were travelling a lot. I do have it in my queue though because I feel like it's the kind of show I NEED to see.

I never did get to grow up with the X-files since my mother thought it was to "adult" lol. Little did she know my father was letting me watch any and every horror movie made.

At least it's on netflix now though. Hopefully it will stay on there long enough I can watch all the episodes.

Hm, well make sure you post about it when you finally watch it. I'm curious to hear your perspective. I just...I can't watch it. I've tried, I actually have Season 1 on DVD somewhere...but I start to get really upset and angry because of how frustrating the ending was. First 4 seasons have some really solid episodes though.

Yeah, I'm surprised that my parents let me watch it. Though apart from the alien abductions and monster attacks, it's pretty innocent. Sexual stuff is hinted at (it's how I learned what the term "bj" meant) it's not a main part of the show (which is why I probably liked it as a teen).

If you start watching it, def. blog about it, I am curious how it has aged and how someone more into horror than me would feel about it. :)

Xfiles was really my first fandom as well. I liked shows before but Xfiles I dove right into. It premiered when I was 12 and the cute boy from next door was my babysitter. He wanted to watch the show so I've been watching since the pilot and scaring myself silly while loving every minute!

Okay not the moments where the show lost it's way. But I loved being a fan and the world that opened up for me. Through Xfiles I learned about shipping, conventions, fandom friends, and more.

Yes! Like always, I liken X-Files to my first serious boyfriend. It wasn't meant to work out, but I learned a lot about fandom and shipping and online conversation etc because of it so I can only be so bitter. ;-)
