Soooooooooo did anyone watch the hour-long premiere of Legend of
Korra
???? What did everyone think?

The whole time I was watching I kept thinking:

You know, Aang was like Luke Skywalker and Korra is turning out to be a LOT
like Anakin...oh shit.

You know, Aang was a lot like Buffy and Korra is turning out to be more
Faith...oh shit.

Obviously, shit was going down at the end of the second episode that looked
very much like a military occupation and that will not end well at all.
Her uncle is clearly evil and I would not be surprised to find out that
whatever he is doing to the spirits when he waves his arms around is just
as upsetting to them as killing their forests.

Curious to see what the connection will be with Tenzin's trip to the air
temples. Clearly it is all going to come together somehow.

Ready for next week!

It looked to me like Unalaq was more forcefully controlling the spirits somehow, which...isn't that kind of the opposite of what you're actually supposed to do with them? Whenever Aang dealt with the spirit world, the focus seemed to be on communicating with them and pacifying them, not just puppet-mastering them to do whatever the heck you wanted. The whole point of the Avatar's role is to be this bridge that fosters communication and understanding.

But yeah, I'm really glad they're doing more stuff with spirits and the Spirit World this season. I was always fascinated by that aspect of the A:tLA universe. I read somewhere Wan Shi Tong is supposed to show up again, too, which I really hope is true because fuck yeah.

I think it was a smart move to introduce this new "spirits" plot line to differentiate Korra's journey from Aang's. I mean, obviously they are very different people so their Avatar journey will be different, but while Aang's story was about traveling around from place to place, Korra's has been about planting her in one spot and having her figure out how to grow from there. And her villains are a lot more mysterious too - I mean, Fire Nation = Evil was most of Aang's story, but Korra is starting off the bat with shades of grey everywhere.

Really looking forward to how this all unfolds. Seeing the troops marching into the water tribe gave me chills. It def paralleled the scene of the fire nation attack in A:tLA but it's somehow worse...
