oh hey, my lj is still here...

Whoops, so I sorta stopped posting on Livejournal. It started with NaNoWriMo guilt when I pretty much failed out of posting for mini-nano almost immediately. Then I started to get a few new followers on tumblr and Wordpress so I was posting there a lot. Plus, you know, life and stuff, moving into the new apartment, getting used to living with someone else again (and loving every minute of it).
I'm done with Facebook, that site is just terrible for finding anything relevant. I still have my account because I need it to post for work but as far as seeing what others are posting, it's not happening. All their stupid algorithms have made the feed page unreadable. I lost interest in Twitter and Pinterest too, realizing that you can't really build any decent relationships on there. I mean, in the end it's about making some friends, right?
I'm not quite sure what to do with livejournal. This used to be my online home, my one-stop shop for all things geeky, but the web is so scattered now. I hate to make this just personal stuff...I like having online friends that know more about me than what TV shows I watch. Right now, my comfort level on Wordpress and Tumblr is not high enough to post about anything beyond pretty pictures.

Date: 2013-12-08 10:05 pm (UTC)I can't stand FB either. It feels weird, because that's where my real life people hang out. The cross-section of Internet and Real Life just does odd things to my brain...
And don't feel bad about NaNo. I cashed out this year too. Only made it to 12k.
The web is pretty scattered now, I agree. And much as I enjoy Doctor Who, the fandom feels like an uncomfy place to be right now. Like, I have opinions about Moffat and how he handles his female characters, but I don't like the pissing matches that tend to result when that sort of thing comes up. It's not...fun. Fandom is supposed to be fun, right?
Personally, I post about whatever I'm writing, whatever Technical Difficulties I run into with computers and stuff, fandom stuff, job-related stuff--whatever I feel like getting off my chest. Seems like what everyone else uses it for, but LJ isn't as huge as it once was. There are few authors I follow here, but just a handful of actual "friends," y'know what I mean?
Still, if you're looking for something to post on, I dunno if you're interested in this at all but I'm doing a Star Wars retrospective. The intro post is up already, but I'm reviewing Episode I on Friday.

Date: 2013-12-08 11:20 pm (UTC)I know; the Internet is so crazy scattered. Part of me feels I "should" be on Twitter 'cause that's where the cool kids hang out, but I really don't feel like quickly sending out bits of my life in 125 (or whatever) character bursts. I prefer being able to think, write, add, edit, and then post.
I failed out of my own unofficial mini-wrimo after about...5 days? Got sick, went on vacation and then out of motivation. Maybe in January when the outside world is boring and there's no major holidays or vacation time on the horizon...
and...
Date: 2013-12-08 11:25 pm (UTC)Also, I'm so glad I never got onto online Doctor Who fandom. I get enough of the drama from my blogfriends who have issues especially with the women-character unhappiness. Fortunately my FB friends are mostly about squeeing and posting cute/cool pics of characters.

Date: 2013-12-09 12:04 am (UTC)I feel you on the weird feels about social media. I'm not a huge fan of facebook I don't do twitter. I use Pinterest to keep track of things, not really to make friends.
Hope you keep posting here. Particularly if there are more gifs of Mattie- even if he is looking so glum.

Date: 2013-12-09 03:49 am (UTC)I only use FaceBook every once in awhile, it's the place where I connect with some of my family. I still generally do most of my hanging out here on LJ.

Date: 2013-12-09 04:06 am (UTC)I have a similar thing about Tumblr, where I feel weird about posting personal stuff there. I don't think it's bad to have a strictly personal journal, especially since LJ has better privacy settings than Tumblr!

Date: 2013-12-09 07:56 pm (UTC)Yeah, everybody seems to be on tumblr and twitter these days.
I'm finding the same thing for LJ. I may end up keeping it as an online journal, but not entirely sure just yet. :/

Date: 2013-12-13 04:03 am (UTC)The web is very scattered, I agree. I think that is why I have such a hard time keeping up with everything hence the late comment. Haha.
