Started listening to How to Train Your Dragon this week. FANGIRL ALERT: IT IS NARRATED BY DAVID TENNANT! He reads it with his lovely Scottish accent. You can probably get it for free through your public library (that's how I got it, through Overdrive.)

But, it's weird because the story is VERY different from the movie. I know I shouldn't be surprised, I've read enough books and seen enough movies to know they changes things but I guess I wasn't thinking it would be THIS different. Right now, I might actually be leaning towards the movie as better...but we will see. It might just be the shock. Right now, Toothless is not a cute little dragon but sort of a brat? Hiccup is still a sweetheart but his relationship with Toothless is not the same.

Maybe when I finish the book I'll rent the movie again. I haven't seen it in awhile but I'm pretty sure the dragons in the movie did not speak, yeah?

Also reading The Girl with All the Gifts. I didn't remember requesting this book but the cover has a blurb from Joss Whedon so I am assuming that is how it got on my radar. It's an adult book, I know, you're shocked. We will see if I can get through it before the 3 weeks are up.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*goes back to read the rest of your post, because this is where my brain stopped*

ETA: Okay, back. *fans self*

Yeah, the dragons definitely don't talk in the movie? Odd, considering talking animals isn't a no-go in any form of animation--or anything directed at kids, really. Not complaining, mind you, but--odd.

I'm on Vampire Academy right now.

Are you guys doing the YALSA thing? We have a whole shelf with these, "Hey, teens, vote for me!" bookmarks in them. I've only read a couple, but I'm on my way.

I always forget about the YALSA Teen Top Ten until it's too late! Thank you for the reminder, printed out the list this morning and we put it in the reading suggestion binder. Don't really have any display space until after Summer Reading Club ends, unfortunately. Not sure many of the books are here anyway LOL. It's been insane.

I never read How to Train Your Dragon, but I really loved the movie. I might skip the book, but David Tennant narrating it is a pretty big draw, I have to admit.

If I make it to the end of the book, I'll let you know if it's worth reading. It's been going strong for some time now so it must have something good.

Yep, the dragons didn't speak. You're the second person to be reading/listening to the book lately, it's getting me curious. I'm going to find myself a copy, too.

I think the second movie coming out reminded us all about the books. :)

I've never read the book or even seen the movie version of How to Train Your Dragon. I have a feeling that the film would make me cry though (I have a habit of shedding tears over animated movies.)

I really want to read The Girl with All the Gifts.

I actually wasn't even aware that this was a book...but I should have known. >.<

Let me know if it's worth the read! I adore the movie. :)

I've listened to so many audiobooks because he narrates! Have you listened to My Sister Lives on the Mantelpiece? I really enjoyed that one :)

I wanted to! I had to read that book last year for a conference and stumbled upon the audiobook info online but couldn't manage to get my hands on a copy. :(

I *think* I bought mine from Audible...bonus for it being an actual good book, but that man could read the phone book and I'd probably buy it :p

He is having way too much fun with 'How to train your dragon' - lots of over the top characters with zany voices. Especially Toothless, who has a bit of a stutter.

I've never read the book so I'm surprised to hear that the dragon does speak where as in the movie, he didn't.

I've noticed with a lot of animated movies based off books, more liberties are taken (more so than a live-action), some being so drastic that they're nothing like the actual book, just hints are left over here and there.
