Teaser Trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens

I can't help it, I'm so giddy. I am staying optimistic about this, I am hoping that this will be a labor of love from the crew.

Just hearing those main titles and realizing I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THIS STORY IS ABOUT makes me happy.

(though I am a little concerned with that Sith's lightsaber...I mean, those exhaust vents on the side seem unsafe...he might chop is OWN arm off...)

Now just to wait another year...

I think those things are supposed to be a cross guard, to protect the hand. Hands come off a lot in light saber fights...

My boyfriend and I had to rewatch that trailer because we couldn't believe how impractical that lightsaber was. The robot stole my heart though!

Pssht, he's a Sith, he would probably chop his own arm off on purpose. :P (Or maybe I'm just jaded because of the amount of apps I've gotten over the last almost four years where Sith players assume that in order to be a Sith, they need to have this HORRIBLE LIFE that involves SLAVERY and BEING KIDNAPPED and TORTURE and SELF MUTILATION. Hell, I've had Jedi apps with that kind of stuff, too. :|)

I freaking love it. I mean, the two blades coming out of the handle are a little iffy, but maybe there's something about it we're not quite seeing just because of the fact that it's a teaser trailer?

Seeing the Falcon blast off like that made me super, crazy, AMAZINGLY happy. ♥ ONE MORE YEAR.

hahah oooooooohkay then, not sure what "apps" are but, yeah, that is lazy writing. Can't people just be evil without having to make up a reason to be evil? I don't think they are truly evil if they have to apologize for it. Palpatine was just straight up bad. He never cried about his mommy. Or cut off any appendages (that we know of...ew)

LOL but I'm SO EXCITE!!!!!! The Falcon pushed me over the edge too. I was like "ooh this is pretty" but then my childhood...oh there it was and I was 8 again and so excited and asking my Mom why they didn't make more movies and now they are making the NEXT movie in the series...don't let me down Abrams!!

Haha, sorry! "Apps" is role play lingo and means applications. Basically, people write up character profiles, giving basic information about the character they're creating, and in the case of a Star Wars role play they give information about Force abilities and weapons, and then they write a history. My staff members and I read it over and approve it, ask for edits, or in some cases (when it's reaaaally bad, or even when it's not reaaaally bad but the edits just aren't being made better), we flat out deny it (this doesn't happen too often, actually, which is kind of surprising for a Star Wars role play because it seems to be one of those fandoms where bad apps come up fairly often). Not all role plays use apps- something that's become more popular in the last few years are role plays with absolutely no apps, where you just join and create a character and just post away and don't have to get it approved, or they have a really basic profile that you fill out and it gets glanced over and that's about it.

EXACTLY. I mean, sometimes having that sort of thing in a character's history isn't so bad, but it reaaaally depends. If you're having your character get kidnapped at age eight, made a slave, forced to kill people by the age of ten, and then have it tortured as punishment so that they'll KNOW THE DARK SIDE, you're doing it wrong and that's just a Stu character.

I saw the Falcon and I just...I don't know. I was trying not to freak out too much because my mom was home and she didn't really share in the excitement too much when I showed her the trailer, but if she hadn't been home? HELL YES I would have been jumping up and down at seeing that thing blast off into the sky.

I know that Abrams gets a lot of flack because he screwed Star Trek up (which, having not seen much for Star Trek beyond episodes of The Next Generation, some of the older movies with Picard and them, and now the two movies that Abrams did, I actually LIKED the Star Trek movies, but that's as a non-Star Trek fan, or at least not a full one), but I think there's a good chance he's going to do really good with this movie. I mean, he's a bigger fan of Star Wars than he is of Star Trek, and he KNOWS there's a lot of pressure on him to make this good. Plus, someone on Oh No They Didn't was discussing it and they made the point that basically, the original trio PROBABLY wouldn't have agreed to come back if the story wasn't going to be good, especially Harrison because he hates Star Wars. He seems to be doing things right so far. The teaser has the right amount of original trilogy feel to it, and he wants it to, basically, be just as awesome as the original trilogy was. Plus, it can't get any worse than the prequels...and if it does, then this would basically be the equivalent of episode one in terms of the weakest movies (though I'd argue that Attack of the Clones is weaker). Even the original trilogy has an episode one equivalent- Return of the Jedi is a mixed love/hate movie because a lot of people (including my older cousin) don't like certain aspects of it, like the Ewoks.

tl;dr I think Abrams is going to do okay. And I guess even if he does screw it up somehow, at least he's not signed onto directing the next movie and it's someone else (whose name escapes me) that's doing it, so this is his only shot at screwing it up right now. And if the worst we get from him is a little too much lens flare, I don't think that's the worst thing in the world.

I'm really just happy that I'm alive for when a Star Wars movie with the original trio involved is being released into theaters and I'll get to go to the midnight showing for it. Like, I NEVER in a million years thought there would be a new Star Wars movie involving any of them, never mind all three. It's basically a huge childhood dream come true, especially because I thought the prequels were going to be the last set of new movies I'd ever get to see. (And actually, technically that stupid Clone Wars movie they released was the last NEW Star Wars movie that was released, but I hated it and like to pretend it doesn't exist.)

I had a lot of fun with the first Star Trek movie, it had it's flaws but I felt like the whole alternate timeline meant I didn't have to feel like the original series was deleted. (the second movie was just awful as a movie, Star Trek or not). I grew up watching TNG but I had seen enough of the Original Series with the movies (I loved Wrath of Khan as a kid but we had them all on VHS). So, yeah, I never really get these haters who are...as they say, gonna hate. :P

I think Abrams loves these movies as much as we do and will do the best he can. And I think movies suit him, I think he will do well. I'm hoping he does well.

And I hope that fandom can stop embarrassing itself with stupid comments (were people actually upset there was a black stormtrooper?? REALLY?!?!?)

Yeah, see, I only grew up watching some episodes of Next Generation because my dad used to watch the episodes and I'd lay on the floor next to him while he watched, and I remember getting dragged to the theater to see one of the movies. (He met Gates McFadden and got her autograph, though, so that's cool. I have no idea where the picture she signed is, though.) I never got into Star Trek, though, because once fifth grade hit and I met the two girls who introduced me to Star Wars, I was a goner. I was obsessed with Star Wars from fifth grade to 8th grade (pushing into 9th grade). I mean, I still CAN be obsessed with it, but not to the same embarrassing point.

I'm hoping he does well, too, haha. There might be a riot outside of his house if he screws this up too much.

Ugh, yes they were. Apparently THEY CAN'T BE BLACK because CLONES WEREN'T BLACK...even though 1. the guy who played Jango Fett wasn't white, apparently and 2. the Empire totally could have recruited regular human members of any race as long as they were fit and willing to do whatever they had to, ESPECIALLY considering they were hanging on by a thread after Return of the Jedi, so they could use as much help as possible. Oh, also, apparently THEY CAN'T BE BLACK because IT'S UNHEARD OF to have a major character in Star Wars played by someone who isn't white. :| Sometimes I really want to disassociate myself from the Star Wars fandom because people do and say stupid things like this, but I actually wouldn't be surprised if there were non-real-fans who were just saying it to be racist jerks.
