Finally watched the latest episode of Hannibal. Quick reactions under the cut.
This has to have been the most artsy and image heavy episode ever. I can't decide if it is gorgeous or pretentious or maybe both?
I also can't decide if any of it actually happened that way. As soon as Hannibal said "Once upon a time..." I became suspicious of how much of what we saw was true. Especially later on when he tells Bedelia he can make her remember whatever version she wants...I'm sure he can do the same for himself.
And was that her remains on display in the final moments? He felt she had betrayed him, just like Judas and the others he was lecturing on. And then he wanted her to know that she was, in fact, participating in everything. And she wasn't on the train with him either.
I feel like the meaning of this episode will come later, like the rest of the season will call back to it in some way.
Good to see what was left of Abel because I do love Eddie Izzard. His conversations with Hannibal were great. I loved that line "It's only cannibalism if we are equals." Talk about a burn!
Just had a slight spoiler while watching the Post-Mortem episode but nothing too big. Still, wish they would be more careful with those!

Date: 2015-06-11 09:36 pm (UTC)That Hannibal is likely manipulating the story is something I didn't consider initially (silly me), but it makes sense. I agree that they'll likely revisit that time in some way later on.
I assumed the remains were the TA's, but with all the time jumping involved this episode they could be Bedelia's. I suppose we'll find out.

I say "Tasty!" per your choice of icon!
This is one of the many things I posted on Twitter last week:

I had mixed feelings on the episode itself. It felt weirdly one-offy for a season premiere. But I'm ready to do it all again tonight!

Date: 2015-06-12 11:41 pm (UTC)I feel like we will have call backs to this episode throughout the season, perhaps finding out what really happened. I think at least a year(?) is supposed to have passed since the Season 2 finale so there is a lot of time to cover, so if this is Hannibal's fairy tale to himself, maybe we will learn the truth behind the tale. Was Bedelia really so compliant? How long was she there?
Also, Hannibal is going to have a hell of a time with his Airbnb deposit on that villa, how do you get blood out of wood floors?
Bryan Fuller compared this episodes to The Talented Mr Ripley and it definitely had that vibe of a stolen summer, literally with a stolen identity.
Ugh, will need to watch episode 2 later this week!
