just made myself tear up...
Dec. 29th, 2015 11:37 pmSPOILERS SPOILERS SPOILERS for Force Awakens
Just a thought I had the other night and it made my chest tighten...
because when Han dies, we see Rey and Finn react...
we see Chewie react...
we even see Leia as she falters for a moment...
but somewhere out in the galaxy, Luke was alone...all alone...
and he felt it.
And he had no one to turn to, no one to comfort him later, and he perhaps didn't even know what exactly happened.
Or he did and that made him feel even worse, feeling both the death of Han, the loss of Ben, Kylo Ren's full turn to the Dark Side and all the while blaming himself.
How hard will it be for Luke to forgive Kylo Ren? Can he do for Kylo Ren what he did for Darth Vader? Or is this why Rey must take up the mantle, because she can still save Ben because, while she was friends with Han, their friendship was so brief that she might still be able to find forgiveness in her heart (especially if there turns out to be a family connection).
Still...that image of poor Luke...all alone. I seriously start to get teary eyed...

Date: 2015-12-30 06:08 am (UTC)Aside from the fact that we'll never get that Luke and Han reunion, especially since Luke left feeling ashamed about letting down Ben and therefore letting down both his sister and his best friend, just the fact that he probably could actually feel Han dying and knowing for a fact that this was his own fault is utterly heartbreaking. He will never get a chance to reconcile with Han, never have a proper reunion, never hear any form of "kid" in an affectionate tone. Han is gone, and he feels responsible for it. For all of it.
I wonder if Luke will initially refuse to train Rey because he doesn't feel like he is rightfully capable of doing so after what happened with Ben (which would be odd if he left a trail for his friend to find him again, esp with R2D2 turning back on after another one with the Force is to be found, thus setting up for the future training scenario, but you never know now with what happened with Han and how he feels sad and hopeless). I wonder if Rey can convince him otherwise, and perhaps prove that she can, if possible, turn Kylo Ren away from the Dark Side and back to the Light as Ben again. Because you're right, even if she is initially filled with rage and all this emotion since she was right there when it happened and had connected with Han for the short while she had known him, she can still be trained in the ways of the Jedi, and she can set things right again.
Everything is just....so utterly sad. Like, the film was awesomesauce, I loved it, but damn. All the emotions.

Date: 2015-12-30 06:05 pm (UTC)The worse thing I saw though was that reaction of Chewie to it though. Because he wasn't necessarily reacting to Han dying but to the fact that Ben this little bitty baby Ben he had held and cared for, murdered his father. Chewie's a marksmen and could've shot Ben in an instant but couldn't because he's still little baby Ben to him.

Date: 2015-12-31 10:39 pm (UTC)Can they feel it via the force? My knowledge of Star Wars canon isn't that great. I couldn't tell if Leia had witnessed Han's death or if she just felt it herself. If she did, I'd be willing to bet that Luke did too. Oh, Luke. :( And yeah, even if he didn't know exactly what happened...
I'd honestly been expecting for Luke to show up before Han died. (I was spoiled for that, still not sure whether or not it was a blessing. On one hand, I don't think the scene where he's killed had the same impact, because I think you're supposed to believe his son's going to come back and I knew that wasn't going to happen. On the other hand, it wasn't this horrible shock.) I think it makes it sadder that he didn't get to. At least Han and Leia had their goodbye!reunion, even if they didn't know it would be.
