orangerful | movie thoughts: Zoolander 2

The Good: SO MANY CAMEOS! Lots of callbacks. Pokes fun at today's fashion world (which totally deserves it).

The Bad: Probably a bit too much "plot" but really, who watches Zoolander for the plot?

The Ugly: How do I unsee Benedict Cumberbatch as "All"? Also, Hansel's orgy group.

Think in your mind, on a scale of 1-5 stars, what you gave the ORIGINAL Zoolander...
...now subtract a star.

I'd say that is about where Zoolander 2 lands. It's not perfect, it relies a lot on cameos that will make you laugh out loud the first time you see it, but it is a lot of fun.

I'm not sure how well it will stand up to repeat viewings.

Even though there were only a handful of us in the theater tonight, we all laughed out loud MANY times. It may not be a perfect movie, but the writing team knew exactly what we wanted to see and what made us LOL in the first movie and tried to replicate it there.

The opening moments of the film, you get a quick update on past events (omg did the original come out that long ago??) and it ends in 2016 with a newsclip saying something to the effect "do you want to feel old? When asked, most kids today didn't know what a fax machine is..." and this is the set up for most of the story - Derek and Hansel are old news, off the radar and this is their journey back.

Yes the story gets derailed a little bit with the silly Interpol subplot and a few jokes were only okay, but the hilarious moments made up for it all.

This movie felt MADE for GIFS so see it before you see the entire thing on Tumblr in half second moving images.

So grab your friends, grab some drinks, and remember, it's just a stupid Zoolander sequel - and then you can let the laughs come.
