273 million passwords stolen from Google, Microsoft and Yahoo

Just to be safe, I would recommend that you update your passwords if you have a Google, Microsoft or Yahoo account. Better that then to tempt fate!

Now, if you will excuse me, I need to figure out some insanely clever password and then enter it on every single device I own. :-|

I didn't know about this. Thanks.

These are the times when I'm grateful for Keepass to make sure I never use the same pw twice and they should be difficult to guess. (Downside is, I can't actually remember them so I can't log on to stuff unless I have access to Keepass. But I get by just fine. :)

Yeah, working at a public library, with people who only use their email while in the library, we have the issue of forgotten passwords a LOT. And I guess those are the people who are really at risk because they don't even know how to log in to their accounts to make them safe again.

I have a notebook by my desk at home with all my passwords. LOL talk about fortress of security.

I hate when my phone makes me renew my log ins. It always takes a couple of tries to get it right even though I'm being really careful. :)

No wonder I kept getter alerts from Google and other accounts too like eBay. I changed passwords in a number of places.

http://www.snopes.com/hackers-stole-273-passwords/

anyone who may be seeing this may want to check this out.

(i think this was just a scare tactic because i couldn't find it on major news sites and a simple snopes search with the original link came up with this article.

I wondered, but it's always a good policy to change your passwords once every three months (or so the recommendations go); which this post was a good reminder to... it had been a... lot longer than that for me.

i just changed mine a month ago, so i got a little scared seeing that news report, but i'm glad to know it wasn't the case. i just hate seeing stuff like this setting paranoia and fear without seeing it had been reported on (in fact, i have not heard of this until this post. it was weird.)
