[livejournal.com profile] phenomenal asked for a picture of my favorite book.

I stole this copy from my parents when I found it on the downstairs bookshelf in middle school. My Mom told me I would like it. I LOVED IT!

My (much loved) first copy of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

I lent this book to all of my friends, which is why it looks so abused. I carried it with me everywhere I went.

Runner up goes to Jurassic Park which I have also read more than once and my copy would never survive at the library, but it lives on my bookshelf

Much-loved copy of Jurassic Park that I read over and over the summer of 1993

I have never read the actual book versions of them... I really should just to see what they're like. :)

They are both really quick reads and both have so much more than the movies!

I've never read the books... Just saw the movies and I love them both! I should read the books!

You are a better human being than I am because I cannot lent my books! I'm so awful, but I'm scared I won't get them back and I'm not good at asking people to give me stuff or money back! I can't even ask people to lend me something without feeling guilty sometimes LOL!

Well, this was back in middle school LOL. It takes a LOT for me to lend books nowadays. Plus I work in a library so I'm just like "let me request that for you!" (yes, even to my Mom LOL)

It's true! As long as a library own it in the lower 48 states (can't get stuffed shipped from Alaska or Hawaii) I can get it for a library customer! I've had books shipped from all over. :)

I actually took to carrying a towel around for a while, and it did prove surprisingly useful!

LOL I should do that. I guess that would be the easiest Halloween costume ever! Bathrobe and towel = Arthur Dent!

I miss that cover! I may or may not run off with copies that are donated to the library when they have that cover. I have an extra copy at my desk at work, in case of quoting emergencies!

Douglas Adams wrote for early Doctor Who (like, Tom Baker era). I think you'd find the humor very Whovian. I mean, poor Arthur Dent struggles for pages on end just trying to find a decent cup of tea!

The first book was the reason I first got a kindle. Since my son's loved the book, I decided to try and read it, but it was too big for my hands. It was so uncomfortable to hold, I couldn't get past a page or two. Now that I have a Kindle I should probably try reading it again.

That must have been the entire series, books 1-5. :) Hitchhiker's Guide by itself isn't very long. Definitely give it a try, if only to know why you should always bring a towel and avoid Vogon poetry ;-)

They are both very quick reads - HHGTTG is silly with a lot of dry British humor and Jurassic Park is full of fun science facts mixed in with DINOSAURS! :D Maybe after you're done with Westeros ;-)

Oh I know I've seen the movie for Jurrasic Park so I'm sure I would be fine with the book. I know nothing about Hitchhiker's at all though!! Will add it to my to read and may pick it up at B&N someday
