Shake it up baby now!

In case you didn't know/forgot, I am a librarian by day. This month, I'm in charge of our preschool storytimes. Today, I decided to end storytime with some parachute play while listening to The Beatles sing 'Twist and Shout'. At the end, I had the parents lift up the 'chute so the kids could go under and that also meant I could grab the 'chute and wrap it back up!

But something wonderful and unexpected happened today! While I was gathering my 'chute up in my arms, my iPod just kept playing and suddenly I heard Paul counting down and 'I Saw Her Standing There' playing.

EVERY KID STARTED DANCING!



It was fantastic. The magic of music, the power of The Beatles - I didn't have the heart to stop the song so I just started dancing with all of them too.

It was so much fun. But now I am EXHAUSTED!

Aww, that is most excellent! I don't think we've ever had "real" music in Storytime. Our admin department is so paranoid about copyright we just use the Kidz Bop CDs for everything.

LOL KidZ Bop is under copyright! I guess they are more worried about language.

I was going to do a car driving song but then you realize how many songs about cars are SEXY CAR songs! I was like "Oh I'll do 'Baby Driver' and then I started to sing it to myself and I was like "OH GOD NO!" so that turned a name-that-song about cars that are so not about cars.

Andy said "Little Red Corvette" and I said I would never play anything Prince in story time because Prince singing it automatically makes it sexual. If there was a recording of him singing 'Happy Birthday' I wouldn't play it!!!

LOL yep--anything Prince automatically just sounds sultry because that's how he is. I haven't actually listening to the lyrics in "Little Red Corvette" though, so now I'm wondering.

Honestly, I'm guessing about "Kidz Bop." I dunno what it is they play, because Not My Department, and I Don't Know Kid Music, but it's something like that. Does that make sense?

So, what are you gonna do for your driving of cars song?

I went with The Beach Boys "I Get Around" for the car driving bit. Then we sang "Wheels on the Bus". Now I need to decide if I want to change things up next week or just make 'Twist and Shout' my finale forever!
