PSA: Job at the Library

My library system (Anne Arundel County, Maryland, U.S.) is hiring Part time circulation positions. These are kind of like substitute teachers, so if a person has a vacation, calls out sick or we just need coverage because of a training/program/meeting, you would be called. Hours are kind of all over the place, obviously, but it is a great way to get your foot in the door.

To be on circulation, you only need a high school diploma and Windows experience! And obviously good customer service skills. :)

Okay, I don't live close enough for that but I have been thinking about applying for a similar position down here. I have a Communication degree with a minor in History and a lot of varied experience. Is it a good stepping stone to other positions? Do they usually have any sort of benefits?

Ours don't have any benefits since they are part-time though a recent law went through that required us to let part time employees earn sick leave so that is nice. BUT it is a great way to get behind the scenes and learn about how the library works. We are all very supportive in my system so we coach each other on how to get through interviews etc. so I always say go for it!
