Tim found this article last night and shared it with me and it really made me understand the fundamental flaws in the storytelling with season 8 of GoT and how we tell stories in general.

And now every show I watch, I'm sitting here examining whether it is using sociological or psychological storytelling traits. Just watched the latest episode of Attack on Titan and I think that one definitely works the sociological side of things. Same with The Expanse.

But I can also how our news outlets make the mistake of leaning on psychological storytelling when they report stories, forcing the viewer to see the world through an us vs. them lens.

Anyway, even if you're not a Game of Thrones fan, the article is a really good read for writers, readers and viewers of all media.

I think one of my big takeaways was that the bad writing was not done out of malice, they just really didn't know how to do end this in a way that matched the rest of the series. Which is so sad. We will always wonder if Martin had finished the books FIRST if the final season could have been stronger.

Now I wonder if Martin is frantically taking notes on what not to do for the last book or perhaps just hiding under his desk until people go away and forget the series existed.
