When I first watched Buffy, I thought it was particular to the universe. It's not. That's more or less how Joss Whedon thinks and talks. I watched some of his interviews and every few minutes he'd say something that was perfectly clear but just not standard English. I love it. The same pattern appears in Firefly -- but the two don't sound like each other at all. They just both sound like Joss.
