Movie thoughts: Ruby Sparks (no spoilers)
I like this movie a lot but, in the end, I felt like we needed to see more change in Calvin. I wasn't 100% sure he learned his lesson. But maybe that was just because there was no real way for him to grow with Ruby. Liked his ex-girlfriend said, he would only be truly happy dating himself. And wasn't Ruby just an extension of himself?
I felt like there was a scene missing, at his parents...not sure what should have been in the scene, but it felt like something was missing there that would have given us a little more insight into his character, his past, and what he was looking for in Ruby. Ruby was clearly as free-spirited as his mother now is...but Calvin didn't seem to like how happy or Hippie his mother had become.
In the end, these missing pieces are what keep Ruby Sparks from being a movie I want to go back to. Instead, I'm happy I saw it once, but I don't see myself watching it again, though I look forward to more from Zoe Kazan.
